Overview

The Uttar Pradesh Teacher Eligibility Test (UPTET) is a state-level examination conducted to determine the eligibility of candidates for teaching positions at the Primary (Classes 1–5) and Upper Primary (Classes 6–8) levels in schools across Uttar Pradesh. Candidates who wish to teach Classes 1–5 must appear for Paper I, while those aiming for Classes 6–8 must take Paper II. Candidates who want to teach Classes 1–8 are required to qualify in both papers.

Vacancy Details

UPTET is only a qualifying examination and does not have fixed vacancies. Candidates who qualify become eligible to apply for teaching posts when recruitment notifications are released separately by the concerned authorities.

  • Teacher vacancies are announced through recruitment drives such as Assistant Teacher Recruitment or Super TET.

  • As of January 2026, no vacancy numbers have been announced.

Salary Structure

UPTET qualification does not directly provide a job or salary. After qualifying, candidates can apply for Assistant Teacher posts, and salary is provided as per 7th Pay Commission guidelines.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

UPTET Eligibility Criteria is prescribed by the Uttar Pradesh Basic Education Board for two levels:

Primary Level (Classes 1 to 5) and Upper Primary Level (Classes 6 to 8). Candidates must fulfill educational qualifications and age-related conditions as specified.

For Primary Level (Classes 1 to 5), the candidate must have passed Senior Secondary (Class 12) or equivalent with at least fifty percent marks and must have passed or be appearing in a two-year Diploma in Elementary Education, or a four-year Bachelor of Elementary Education, or a two-year Diploma in Education (Special Education). Candidates who have completed graduation along with a two-year Diploma in Elementary Education are also eligible.

For Upper Primary Level (Classes 6 to 8), the candidate must be a graduate and should have passed or be appearing in a two-year Diploma in Elementary Education, or a one-year Bachelor in Education (BEd), or a four-year Bachelor of Elementary Education, or a four-year BA or BSc Ed, or a one-year BEd (Special Education). Candidates with graduation and BEd qualification are commonly eligible for this level.

Regarding age criteria, there is no upper age limit prescribed for appearing in the UPTET examination. Any candidate who fulfills the educational qualifications can apply for the exam.

Candidates can apply for Paper IPaper II, or both papers, depending on their eligibility. Qualifying the UPTET does not guarantee a teaching job but makes candidates eligible to apply for teaching posts in government and aided schools of Uttar Pradesh. The UPTET eligibility certificate is valid for a lifetime, subject to government rules.
