OVERVIEW
The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) conducts the SSC JHT (Junior Hindi Translator) Examination for the recruitment of candidates for the posts of Junior Hindi Translator, Junior Translator, Senior Hindi Translator, and other related positions in various departments of the Government of India. This national-level examination is conducted once every year to select candidates who are proficient in translating from Hindi to English and English to Hindi, ensuring accurate and effective communication in official documents and reports.

SALIENT FEATURES
SSC JHT 2025 offers an opportunity for candidates interested in language and translation work in central government departments. The selection process includes Paper-I (Objective), Paper-II (Descriptive), Document Verification, and Medical Examination.

VACANCY DETAILS
The SSC JHT 2025 notification announced approximately 437 vacancies across various ministries and departments. The exact number of vacancies may be updated by SSC later. Vacancies are distributed across departments such as Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Defence, Railways, CRPF, and other central government organizations. State-wise or zone-wise vacancies are not released separately.
SALARY STRUCTURE
The salary for SSC JHT posts is based on the 7th Pay Commission.
Junior Hindi Translator / Junior Translator / JTO: Pay Level-6 (₹35,400 – ₹1,12,400)
Senior Hindi Translator: Pay Level-7 (₹44,900 – ₹1,42,400)
Sub-Inspector (Hindi Translator) in CRPF: Pay Level-6
In addition to basic pay, candidates are entitled to allowances such as DA, HRA, and Transport Allowance as per government rules.
EXAM PATTERN
Candidates who qualify Paper-I are eligible to appear for Paper-II.
Paper-II is a descriptive test consisting of translation and essay writing.

Paper-II evaluates translation skills and writing ability.

The level of the paper is based on the educational qualification required for the post.
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
Nationality:
Candidate must be a citizen of India, or a subject of Nepal/Bhutan, or a person of Indian origin migrated from specified countries with a certificate of eligibility issued by the Government of India.
Age Limit:
18 to 30 years (as per SSC notification cut-off dates)
Age Relaxation:
SC/ST – 5 years
OBC – 3 years
PwD – 10 to 15 years
Ex-Servicemen – 3 years (after deduction of service)
Defence personnel disabled – up to 8 years (category-wise)
Educational Qualification:
For JHT / JT / JTO:
Master’s degree in Hindi or English with the other language as a compulsory or elective subject at degree level
AND
Diploma/Certificate in translation or 2 years translation experience
For Senior Hindi Translator:
Same qualification with 3 years translation experience
Physical standards apply only for Sub-Inspector (Hindi Translator) in CRPF.

ADMIT CARD
The SSC JHT Admit Card will be released 4–5 days before the examination date. Candidates can download it from the SSC website using their registration details.
RESULT
SSC will release the result after each stage. The final merit list will be prepared based on combined marks of Paper-I and Paper-II. Candidates can check their result from the SSC website by downloading the result PDF.

EXAM PATTERN
Only those candidates who qualify SSC JHT/JT Paper-I with the required qualifying marks will be eligible to appear for Paper-II. Based on the marks scored in the Computer Based Examination (Paper-I), candidates will be shortlisted category-wise for the Paper-II examination.
Paper-II Details:
Mode: Descriptive type offline pen and paper based test
Subject: Translation and Essay
Maximum Marks: 200
Duration: 2 hours (2 hours 40 minutes for candidates eligible for a scribe)
Mode of Examination:
Paper-II will be conducted in offline descriptive format.
Medium of Examination:
The examination will be bilingual. Candidates will translate passages between Hindi and English.
Marking Scheme:
There is no negative marking in the descriptive Paper-II.
Resolution of Tie Cases:
If two or more candidates secure equal marks, the tie will be resolved in the following order:
Higher marks in Paper-II
Higher marks in General Hindi (Paper-I)
Older candidate (based on Date of Birth)
Alphabetical order of names
Normalisation of Marks:
SSC will normalize marks for exams conducted in multiple shifts to account for variation in difficulty level.

Paper-II will include:
• One passage for translation from Hindi to English
• One passage for translation from English to Hindi
• One essay in Hindi
• One essay in English
The objective is to assess translation skills, writing ability, comprehension, and accuracy. The difficulty level will be as per the prescribed educational qualification.

• A person of Indian origin who has migrated from specified countries with the intention of permanently settling in India and possesses a certificate of eligibility issued by the Government of India.

For Sub-Inspector (Hindi Translator) in CRPF: 18–30 years as per closing date of application.
For other posts: 18–30 years as on 01 August 2025.

PwD (UR) – 10 years

For Post Codes A to C (JHT / JT / JTO):

Same qualification as above with translation diploma or experience.
For Post Code D (Senior Hindi Translator):

Physical Standards (Only for CRPF SI Post):
Height: Male 165 cm, Female 155 cm (relaxations applicable)
Chest (Male): 77–82 cm
Vision: 6/6 in one eye and 6/9 in the other without correction
Candidates must be physically and medically fit.
Note: Candidates applying for CRPF posts must carefully ensure they meet physical and medical standards. No post reallocation will be made if a candidate fails these standards.

SYLLABUS
SSC JHT/JT Paper-II is a descriptive examination designed to assess candidates’ translation skills and writing ability. The paper includes two translation passages—one from Hindi to English and one from English to Hindi. In addition to translation, candidates are required to write one essay in Hindi and one essay in English. The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the candidate’s language proficiency, comprehension, writing skills, and ability to accurately express ideas in both languages. The difficulty level of the paper will be as per the prescribed educational qualification.

EXAM PATTERN
Only those candidates will be eligible for the SSC JHT/JT Paper-II examination who qualify Paper-I with the minimum qualifying marks prescribed by the Staff Selection Commission. Based on the marks obtained in Paper-I (Computer Based Examination), candidates will be shortlisted category-wise to appear for Paper-II.

MODE OF EXAMINATION
Paper-II of the SSC JHT/JT Examination will be conducted in descriptive mode through offline pen and paper format.
MEDIUM OF EXAM
Candidates will be required to translate the given passages. The examination will be conducted bilingually, i.e., in English and Hindi.
MARKING SCHEME
There is no negative marking in the Descriptive Type Pen and Paper Examination.
RESOLUTION OF TIE CASES
If two or more candidates secure equal aggregate marks in Paper-I and Paper-II, the tie will be resolved using the following criteria in order:
Higher marks in Paper-II
Higher marks in Part (i) of Paper-I (General Hindi)
Date of birth (older candidate placed higher)
Alphabetical order of names
IMPORTANT FACTS
Candidates will be shortlisted for Paper-II based on their performance in the Computer Based Examination (Paper-I).
If the Computer Based Examination is conducted in multiple shifts, normalized marks will be used to prepare the merit list.
Based on the combined performance in Paper-I and Paper-II, candidates will be shortlisted for Document Verification.
Final selection and allocation of Ministries/Departments will be based on the candidate’s performance in both papers and their post/department preferences submitted at the time of Document Verification.
Candidates using a scribe will be provided compensatory time of 20 minutes per hour of examination.

Candidates must fulfill the following eligibility conditions to apply for the posts of Junior Hindi Translator, Junior Translator, and Senior Hindi Translator as per SSC JHT Notification 2025.
Nationality
A candidate must be either:
• A citizen of India, or
• A subject of Nepal, or
• A subject of Bhutan, or
• A person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, East African countries such as Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania (formerly Tanganyika and Zanzibar), Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia, and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.
Candidates belonging to categories other than Indian citizens must possess a certificate of eligibility issued by the Government of India. If such a certificate is required, the candidate may appear in the examination, but the appointment will be granted only after submission of the eligibility certificate.

Educational Qualification

Candidates must have a Master’s degree from a recognized university in one of the following combinations:
• Master’s degree in Hindi with English as a compulsory or elective subject or as the medium at degree level
OR
• Master’s degree in English with Hindi as a compulsory or elective subject or as the medium at degree level
OR
• Master’s degree in any subject with Hindi medium and English as a compulsory or elective subject at degree level
OR
• Master’s degree in any subject with English medium and Hindi as a compulsory or elective subject at degree level
OR
• Master’s degree in any subject with both Hindi and English as compulsory or elective subjects or one as medium and the other as a subject at degree level
AND
• Recognized Diploma or Certificate in translation from Hindi to English and vice versa, or
• Two years’ experience of translation work in a Central/State Government office or Government undertaking.
For Post Code E (Sub-Inspector – Hindi Translator in CRPF):
The educational qualification is the same as above along with:
• Diploma/Certificate in translation or
• Two years’ translation experience in Government/Public Sector organizations.
For Post Code D (Senior Hindi Translator / Senior Translator):
Educational qualification is similar to the above criteria, but requires:
• Diploma/Certificate in translation, or
• Three years’ experience in translation work from Hindi to English and vice versa in Government offices or Government undertakings.
Physical Standards (For Sub-Inspector – Hindi Translator in CRPF)
Height:
Male – 165 cm
Female – 155 cm
Relaxed Height:
Male – 162.5 cm
Female – 150 cm (for specified categories and Scheduled Tribes)
Chest (Male only):
Unexpanded – 77 cm (76 cm for ST)
Expanded – 82 cm (81 cm for ST)
Weight: Proportionate to height and age as per medical standards.
Medical Standards
• Minimum distant vision: 6/6 in one eye and 6/9 in the other without correction
• No knock knee, flat foot, squint, or varicose veins
• Must have proper color vision
• Candidates should be physically and mentally fit and free from any condition that may affect job performance
Note: Candidates applying for the Sub-Inspector (Hindi Translator) post in CRPF must carefully ensure that they meet the physical and medical standards. Post allocation will not be changed later due to failure in these standards.
