OVERVIEW

The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) conducts the SSC Junior Hindi Translator (JHT) Examination to recruit candidates for the posts of Junior Hindi Translator, Junior Translator, Senior Hindi Translator, Hindi Pradhyapak, and Sub-Inspector (Hindi Translator) in various Ministries, Departments, and Organizations under the Government of India.

SALIENT FEATURES

The SSC Combined Hindi Translators Examination consists of two papers followed by Document Verification and Medical Examination.

Paper I – Objective (MCQ), 200 Questions, 200 Marks, Duration 120 Minutes
Paper II – Descriptive, 200 Marks, Duration 120 Minutes

NOTIFICATION DETAILS

The detailed notification was released on 5 June 2025 on the official website. The application process started on 5 June 2025 and closed on 26 June 2025. The application correction window was open from 1 July to 7 July 2025. SSC JHT Paper-I will be conducted on 12 August 2025. The Paper-I result will be announced after the examination.

VACANCY DETAILS

SSC has announced approximately 437 vacancies for various posts including Junior Hindi Translator, Junior Translator, Senior Hindi Translator, and Sub-Inspector (Hindi Translator). Final and updated post-wise and category-wise vacancies will be published on the official SSC website. State-wise or zone-wise vacancies are not released by the Commission.

SALARY STRUCTURE

Junior Hindi Translator / Junior Translator / JTO – Pay Level 6 (₹35,400 – ₹1,12,400)
Senior Hindi Translator – Pay Level 7 (₹44,900 – ₹1,42,400)
Sub-Inspector (Hindi Translator) – Pay Level 6 (₹35,400 – ₹1,12,400)

EXAM PATTERN

Paper-I is conducted in Computer-Based mode and consists of 200 questions for 200 marks with a duration of 120 minutes.

General Hindi – 100 Questions – 100 Marks
General English – 100 Questions – 100 Marks

Negative marking of 0.25 marks will be applied for each wrong answer. The exam will be conducted bilingually in Hindi and English. Marks will be normalized for multi-shift exams.

Minimum Qualifying Marks:
UR – 30%
OBC/EWS – 25%
Others – 20%

General English includes topics such as Fill in the Blanks, Error Recognition, Articles, Verb & Prepositions, Spelling, Vocabulary, Grammar, Synonyms, Antonyms, Sentence Structure, Idioms and Phrases.

General Hindi includes topics such as Sandhi, Samas, Kriya, Visheshan, Hindi Grammar, Synonyms, Antonyms, Proverbs, and Paragraph-based questions.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

Nationality: Candidate must be a citizen of India or meet SSC nationality conditions.

Age Limit: 18 to 30 years.

Age Relaxation:
SC/ST – 5 years
OBC – 3 years
PwD – Up to 10–15 years (as per category)
Ex-Servicemen and other categories – As per government rules

Educational Qualification

For Junior Translator / JHT / JTO:
Master’s degree in Hindi with English as a subject or medium, OR
Master’s degree in English with Hindi as a subject or medium, OR
Master’s degree in any subject with Hindi and English at degree level
AND
Diploma/Certificate in Translation or 2 years translation experience.

For Senior Hindi Translator: Same qualification with 3 years translation experience.

For Sub-Inspector (Hindi Translator): Same educational qualification along with required physical and medical standards.

SELECTION PROCESS

Stage 1 – Paper I (Computer Based Test)

Stage 4 – Medical Examination

Final selection will be based on combined performance in Paper I and Paper II.

ADMIT CARD

SSC JHT Admit Card will be released 4–5 days before the exam date. Candidates can download it from the SSC website using their registration number and password.

RESULT

The SSC JHT result will be declared separately for Paper I and Paper II. The final result will be prepared based on the combined marks of both papers. Candidates can check the result from the SSC official website by searching their roll number in the result PDF.

The candidate must be a citizen of India or meet the nationality conditions specified by SSC, including subjects of Nepal/Bhutan or persons of Indian origin as per government rules.

Age Limit:
For Sub-Inspector (Hindi Translator) in CRPF – 18 to 30 years as on the closing date of application (candidates born between 25-06-1995 and 26-06-2007).

For other posts – 18 to 30 years as on 01-08-2025 (candidates born between 02-08-1995 and 01-08-2007).

Age Relaxation:
SC/ST – 5 years
OBC – 3 years
PwD – 10 to 15 years (as per category)
Ex-Servicemen and other categories – As per government rules.

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATION

For Post Codes A to C (Junior Hindi Translator / Junior Translation Officer / Junior Translator):

Master’s degree in Hindi with English as a subject or medium, OR
Master’s degree in English with Hindi as a subject or medium, OR
Master’s degree in any subject with Hindi and English at degree level

AND

Diploma/Certificate in Translation or two years’ experience in translation work in a Government office.

For Post Code E (Sub-Inspector – Hindi Translator):

Same educational qualification as above
AND
Diploma/Certificate in Translation or two years’ translation experience
Along with required physical and medical standards.

For Post Code D (Senior Hindi Translator):

Same Master’s degree qualification
AND
Diploma/Certificate in Translation or three years’ translation experience in a Government office.

PHYSICAL & MEDICAL STANDARDS (For Sub-Inspector – CRPF)

Height:
Male – 165 cm
Female – 155 cm

Relaxation applicable for certain categories and regions.

Chest (Male):
77 cm (unexpanded), 82 cm (expanded)

Vision: 6/6 in one eye and 6/9 in the other without glasses.
Candidates must be medically fit and free from physical defects affecting job performance.

Mode of Examination

The SSC JHT/JT Paper-I will be conducted as a Computer-Based Examination. The paper will contain only objective-type multiple-choice questions.

Medium of Examination

The examination will be conducted bilingually, in both English and Hindi languages.

Marking Scheme

For each correct answer, 1 mark will be awarded.
There will be a negative marking of 0.25 marks for each wrong answer.
No marks will be deducted for unattempted questions.

Normalisation of Marks

SSC normalizes the scores of candidates for exams conducted in multiple shifts to ensure fairness and to adjust for variations in the difficulty level of question papers across different shifts.

OBC / EWS – 25%
All Other Categories – 20%

IMPORTANT FACTS

Qualifying the Paper-I Computer-Based Test is mandatory for all posts.
The exam consists only of objective-type multiple-choice questions.
The total duration of the examination is 120 minutes.
Candidates eligible for the use of a scribe will be provided compensatory time of 20 minutes per hour of examination.
Minimum qualifying marks are 30% for UR, 25% for OBC/EWS, and 20% for other categories.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

Candidates must fulfill the eligibility conditions prescribed in the SSC JHT Notification 2025 to apply for the posts of Junior Hindi Translator, Junior Translator, and Senior Hindi Translator. The eligibility is based on nationality, age limit, age relaxation, educational qualification, and (for certain posts) physical and medical standards.

Nationality

A candidate must be:

  • A citizen of India, or

  • A subject of Nepal, or

  • A subject of Bhutan, or

  • A person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, East African countries (Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia, Vietnam) with the intention of permanently settling in India.

Candidates belonging to categories other than Indian citizens must possess a certificate of eligibility issued by the Government of India.

Age Limit

Minimum Age: 18 Years
Maximum Age: 30 Years

Age will be calculated as per the date mentioned in the official notification.

  • Two years of translation experience in Government or Public Sector organizations.

Physical Standards (Only for Sub-Inspector in CRPF)

Height:

  • Male – 165 cm

Weight should be proportionate to height and age.

Medical Standards

  • Vision: 6/6 in one eye and 6/9 in the other without correction

  • No knock knee, flat foot, squint eyes, or varicose veins

  • Good physical and mental health as per Government standards

Important Note

Physical and medical standards apply only to candidates applying for Sub-Inspector (Hindi Translator) in CRPF. Candidates must ensure they meet these standards, as post allocation will not be changed later if they fail the physical or medical examination.
