The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has released the SSC JE 2025 notification to fill 1,731 vacancies for Junior Engineer (Civil, Mechanical, and Electrical) posts. The online application process started on 30 June 2025 and continued until 21 July 2025.

SSC JE Paper I was conducted from 3rd to 6th December 2025, and Paper II is scheduled to be held during January–February 2026.

The result for SSC JE Paper I is expected to be declared in early February 2026. The provisional answer key was released on 19 December 2025. Candidates will be able to check their results on the official SSC website.


OVERVIEW

SSC JE (Staff Selection Commission Junior Engineer) is a national-level examination conducted to recruit Junior Engineers for various departments of the Central Government. The selection process is carried out in two stages – Paper I and Paper II.

SELECTION PROCESS

The SSC JE selection process includes the following stages:

Selected candidates will undergo a 2-year probation period. The job carries All India Service Liability (AISL).

  9. Pay the application fee.

  10. Download and print the submitted form for future reference.

  3. Enter Registration ID and Date of Birth/Password.

  4. Download and print the admit card.

Candidates must carry a printed copy to the exam center and verify all details carefully.


RESULT

SSC JE results are generally announced within one month after the examination. The result is published in PDF format along with cut-off marks.

Steps to check result:

  1. Visit the official SSC website.

  2. Go to the β€œResults” section.

  3. Select the β€œJunior Engineer” tab.

  4. Open the result PDF.

  5. Press Ctrl + F and enter your Roll Number.

  6. If your number appears, you are qualified.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

To apply for SSC JE 2025, candidates must fulfill the required conditions related to nationality, age limit, and educational qualifications as specified in the official notification.


Nationality

The candidate must be:

  • A citizen of India, or

  • A subject of Nepal, or

  • A subject of Bhutan, or

  • A Tibetan refugee who migrated to India before 1 January 1962 with the intention of permanent settlement, or

  • A person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, or East African countries (Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia, Vietnam) with the intention of settling permanently in India.

Candidates belonging to categories other than Indian citizens must have a certificate of eligibility issued by the Government of India.

The SSC JE selection process consists of two Computer-Based Tests – Paper I and Paper II. Candidates who qualify Paper I are shortlisted for Paper II. Final selection is based on combined performance, followed by document verification and medical examination.

Marking Scheme

Each correct answer – 1 mark

Negative marking:
Paper I – 0.25 marks deducted for each wrong answer
Paper II – 1 mark deducted for each wrong answer

No deduction for unanswered questions.

Tie-Breaking Method

If candidates secure equal marks, the tie will be resolved based on:

  1. Higher marks in Paper II

  2. Older candidate (date of birth)

Normalization of Marks

Since the exam may be conducted in multiple shifts, SSC applies a normalization process to ensure fairness. Scores are adjusted based on the difficulty level of different shifts so that all candidates are evaluated on a uniform scale.

SELECTION PROCESS

  1. Candidates must qualify Paper I to appear for Paper II.

  2. Shortlisting is done based on normalized Paper I marks.

  3. Final merit is prepared using combined marks of Paper I and Paper II along with candidate preferences.

  4. Post allocation is based on merit and preference. Once allotted, the post cannot be changed.

  5. Eligibility is verified at different stages. If a candidate is found ineligible, the candidature will be cancelled.

  6. Selected candidates will undergo a probation period of two years along with required training.

  7. Selected candidates are liable to serve anywhere in India, as the post carries All India Service Liability (AISL).

EXAM SYLLABUS

The Staff Selection Commission provides the detailed syllabus for SSC JE in its official notification. Candidates must first qualify Paper I, which is objective in nature. Those who clear Paper I are shortlisted for Paper II. Final selection is based on Paper II performance followed by document verification and medical examination.

Physical and chemical properties, classification, standard tests, uses, and manufacturing or quarrying of materials such as building stones, cement (Portland), timber, laminates, bituminous materials, paints, varnishes, asbestos products, and other construction materials.

Estimating, Costing and Valuation
Types of estimates, technical terms, rate analysis, methods of measurement, and estimation of construction works such as buildings, flooring, plastering, boundary walls, water tanks, septic tanks, pavements, piles, and footings. Concepts of valuation including cost, scrap value, salvage value, depreciation, sinking fund, and different valuation methods.

Surveying
Basic principles, distance measurement, chain and compass surveying, bearings, plane table methods, theodolite survey, levelling, contouring, corrections for curvature and refraction, tachometry, curve setting, earthwork calculation, and modern surveying instruments.

EXAM PATTERN

The Staff Selection Commission explains the SSC Junior Engineer selection procedure in its official notification. Candidates must first appear for Paper I, which is an objective-type examination with multiple-choice questions. Those who qualify in Paper I are shortlisted for Paper II. Final selection is based on performance in Paper II, followed by document verification and medical examination.

It is important for candidates to understand the SSC JE exam pattern before applying. The examination is conducted in two stagesβ€”Paper I and Paper IIβ€”each having a different structure. Paper II

Paper II is conducted as an objective-type Computer-Based Test. The total marks for the examination are 300, and the duration is 120 minutes (160 minutes for candidates using a scribe).

Note: Candidates must attempt only one engineering section (Part A, Part B, or Part C) based on the discipline selected in the online application form. The same engineering branch must be attempted in both Paper I and Paper II.


Mode of Examination

Paper II is conducted in Computer-Based mode and consists only of objective-type multiple-choice questions.


Medium of Examination

The question paper is available in both English and Hindi.


Marking Scheme

Negative marking is applicable in Paper II. One mark will be deducted for each incorrect answer. Candidates should answer carefully to avoid unnecessary loss of marks.


Tie-Breaking Criteria

If two or more candidates secure equal total marks in Paper I and Paper II combined, the tie will be resolved in the following order:

  1. Higher marks in Paper II

  2. Candidate with earlier date of birth (older candidate)

  3. Alphabetical order of the candidate’s name

The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has released the official notification for the SSC Junior Engineer (Civil, Mechanical, Electrical) Examination 2025, announcing a total of 1,731 vacancies for Junior Engineer posts. This examination is conducted to recruit eligible candidates for JE positions in various Ministries, Departments, and Government organizations.

The online application process began on 30 June 2025 and continued until 21 July 2025. After the completion of the application process, Paper I is scheduled to be held from 3rd to 6th December 2025. Paper II is expected to be conducted during January to February 2026.
