LATEST UPDATE
The Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) released the official notification for RRB JE 2025 on 28 October 2025, announcing a total of 2,585 vacancies. The online application process remained open until 10 December 2025. Eligible candidates were invited to apply for the posts of Junior Engineer (JE), Depot Material Superintendent (DMS), and Chemical & Metallurgical Assistant (CMA) through the official RRB portals. The exam schedule for 2026 has been announced, with the 1st Stage CBT for CEN No. 05/2025 set to be conducted on 19 February, 20 February, and 3 March 2026. The exam city information will be released 10 days before the exam, and admit cards will be issued 4 days prior to the candidate’s exam date. The schedule for the 2nd Stage CBT has not yet been declared, so candidates should regularly check their respective regional RRB websites for the latest updates.

SELECTION PROCESS
The recruitment process includes four stages:

  1. CBT-I (Screening stage)

Final selection is based on CBT-II performance and fulfillment of all eligibility requirements.


HOW TO APPLY
The online application process was conducted through the official RRB website from 31 October to 10 December 2025. Candidates were required to register, fill in their details carefully, upload the necessary documents, and pay the application fee.

EXAM CENTERS
The exam city details will be available through the city intimation slip released 10 days before the exam. The admit card, issued 4 days before the exam, will contain the exact centre address. Candidates must carry the admit card along with a valid photo ID to the examination venue.


ADMIT CARD
The RRB JE admit card can be downloaded from the official website using the registration number and date of birth. It must be printed on A4 paper and carried to the exam centre. Entry will not be permitted without a valid admit card and identification proof.


EXAM RESULT
Results will be published separately for each stage on the respective regional RRB websites. The result will be available in PDF format and will include the roll numbers of qualified candidates. Scores will be calculated using a normalization method to ensure fairness across different exam shifts. Candidates should regularly visit the official website for updates regarding results, cut-offs, and further instructions.

Eligibility Criteria
Candidates applying for the RRB JE exam must fulfill the prescribed eligibility conditions related to nationality, age, educational qualification, medical fitness, and minimum qualifying marks. Applications that do not meet these requirements may be rejected at any stage of the recruitment process.

Nationality

Marking Scheme
Each correct answer carries 1 mark, while 1/3 mark is deducted for every incorrect answer. No marks are deducted for unattempted questions. Scores are normalized when the exam is conducted in multiple shifts.

CBT-I Subjects
Mathematics includes number system, percentage, ratio, algebra, trigonometry, time and work, profit and loss, and statistics. General Intelligence and Reasoning covers analogies, coding-decoding, series, syllogism, directions, classification, and analytical reasoning. General Awareness includes current affairs, Indian economy, polity, geography, history, environment, and science developments. General Science includes Physics, Chemistry, and Biology up to the 10th standard level.

CBT-II Subjects
This stage includes advanced General Awareness, Basics of Computers (MS Office, networking, internet), Environment and Pollution Control, and Technical Subjects based on the candidate’s engineering discipline. Civil topics include construction, structures, hydraulics, and environmental engineering. Mechanical includes thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and production. Electrical covers circuit theory, machines, and power systems. Electronics/Computer includes programming, databases, and networks.


Selection Process
The RRB JE recruitment process includes four stages. First, candidates appear for CBT-I, which is used for shortlisting. Those who qualify are called for CBT-II, which determines merit. Candidates clearing CBT-II are invited for Document Verification, where original certificates are checked. Finally, candidates must undergo a Medical Examination to confirm their fitness for the post. Final selection is based on performance in CBT-II and successful completion of all subsequent stages.

Mathematics Detailed Syllabus
The Mathematics section is based primarily on the 10th to 10+2 level and focuses on numerical ability and problem-solving skills. Topics include Number System (BODMAS, square roots, cube roots), Decimals and Fractions, LCM and HCF, Ratio and Proportion, Percentage, Mensuration, Time and Work, Time and Distance, Simple and Compound Interest, Profit and Loss, Elementary Algebra, Geometry and Trigonometry, Statistics (mean, median, mode, graphs), Age-based problems, Calendar and Clock, and Pipes and Cisterns. The questions are generally of moderate difficulty and test calculation speed and conceptual clarity.


General Intelligence & Reasoning Detailed Syllabus
This section evaluates logical thinking, analytical ability, and decision-making skills. Topics include Analogies, Alphabetical and Number Series, Coding and Decoding, Mathematical Operations, Similarities and Differences, Blood Relations, Syllogism, Data Sufficiency, Seating Arrangement, Venn Diagrams, Puzzles, Classification, Direction Sense, Statement–Conclusion, Statement–Course of Action, and Decision Making. Questions range from easy to moderately complex and focus on accuracy and logical interpretation.


General Awareness Detailed Syllabus
The General Awareness section measures candidates’ knowledge of current events and general knowledge related to India and the world. Important topics include Current Affairs (last 3–4 months), Indian History and Culture including the Freedom Movement, Indian Geography, Indian Polity and Constitution, Indian Economy and Banking, Environmental Issues, Sports, Scientific and Technological Developments, Important Awards and Achievements, Famous Personalities, Books and Authors, Government Schemes, Abbreviations, and major Public Sector Organizations. Most questions are based on a Class 10 level understanding along with recent developments.


General Science Detailed Syllabus
The General Science section includes Physics, Chemistry, and Biology topics based on the 10th standard CBSE level.

Physics: Units and measurements, motion, sound, light, waves, electricity, energy, and basic scientific inventions.
Chemistry: Chemical properties and uses of substances, physical and chemical changes, important compounds (such as Plaster of Paris), properties of gases, and basic surface chemistry.
Biology: Human body basics, nutrition in plants and animals, diseases and their causes (bacteria, viruses, protozoa), important scientific discoveries, and general biological facts.


CBT II Syllabus (Overview)
The second stage includes advanced General Awareness, Physics and Chemistry basics, Computer Applications (MS Office, networking, internet), Environment and Pollution Control, and Technical Subjects based on the candidate’s engineering discipline such as Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, or Computer Engineering. This stage focuses more on professional and technical knowledge related to the specific field.

Exam Pattern
The Railway JE Stage-I examination is conducted in Computer Based Test (CBT) mode and is common for all notified posts. The exam consists of 100 objective-type multiple choice questions carrying a total of 100 marks, with 1 mark awarded for each correct answer. The duration of the examination is 90 minutes, while candidates eligible for the scribe facility are given 120 minutes.

Mode of Examination
The Stage-I examination will be conducted online as a Computer Based Test. All questions will be objective in nature with multiple-choice options.

Medium of Examination
The default language of the question paper is English. However, candidates can choose from several regional languages at the time of application, including Hindi, Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Konkani, Malayalam, Manipuri, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu. In case of any discrepancy between the English version and another language, the English version will be considered final.

Marking Scheme
Each question carries one mark. One mark is awarded for every correct answer. There is a negative marking of 1/3 mark for each incorrect answer, while no marks are deducted for unanswered questions. The normalized marks obtained in Stage-I CBT will be used to shortlist candidates for the Stage-II examination.

Normalization of Marks
Since the CBT may be conducted in multiple shifts, the Railway Recruitment Board applies a normalization process to ensure fairness across different sessions. This method adjusts scores to account for variations in difficulty levels between shifts, and the final merit is prepared based on the normalized scores.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

Candidates willing to apply for RAILWAY JE exam are required to fulfil certain conditions to be eligible for the RAILWAY JE exam. The candidate who does not satisfy the Eligibility criteria like Age, Minimum educational qualification, Nationality, etc., shall be rejected by the authorities. A candidate must be either:

A citizen of India, or

A subject of Nepal, or

A subject of Bhutan, or

A Tibetan refugee who came over to India, before the 1st January, 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India, or

A person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African Countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.


Provided that a candidate belonging to categories (ii), (iii), (iv) and (v)above shall be a person in whose favor a certificate of eligibility has been issued by the Government of India.Ā A candidate in whose case a certificate of eligibility is necessary may be admitted to the examination but the offer of appointment may be given only after the necessary eligibility certificate has been issued to him by the Government of India.

Medical Standerd

Candidates called for DV will have to pass a requisite medical fitness test(s) conducted by the Railway Administration to ensure that the candidates are medically fit to carry out the duties connected with the post(s) opted by them. 4.C- 1Physically fit in all respects

Distance Vision: 6/12, 6/18 with or without glasses. Near Vision: Sn: 0.6, 0.6 with or without glasses when reading or close work is required

1. The above Medical Standards are indicative and not exhaustive and apply to candidates in general.

2. Candidates who have undergone Lasik surgery or any other surgery procedure to correct refractory error are not eligible for the post having Medical Standards A3, B1 and B2.

Minimum Percentage of marks

Minimum percentage of marks for eligibility in various categories:Ā 

UR – 40%,

OBC – 30%,

SC – 30%,

ST – 25%.Ā 

This percentage of marks for eligibility may be relaxed by 2% for PwBD candidates in case of a shortage of PwBD candidates against vacancies reserved for them.

IMPORTANT DATES

The Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) has officially announced the RRB JE Exam Date 2026, stating that the CBT for CEN 05/2025 (JE/DMS/CMA) will be held on 19th and 20th February, and 3rd March 2026. Additional details will be provided along with the RRB JE Admit Card 2026 and the City Intimation Slip. The city details will be released 10 days before the exam, while the admit card will be made available 4 days prior to the scheduled exam date.
