National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC), established in 1975, is India’s largest power generation company with a strong presence across the entire energy value chain. Over the years, the organization has expanded from conventional thermal power to hydro, nuclear, and renewable energy, contributing significantly to sustainable power development and reduction of carbon emissions. NTPC invites applications from qualified and motivated Diploma Engineers with strong academic records for its coal mining projects located at Pakri Barwadih, Chatti Bariatu, and Keredari in Jharkhand; Dulanga in Odisha; and Talaipalli in Chhattisgarh under its Coal Mining Region.

Job Profile
Mechanical Diploma Trainees work in the mechanical maintenance division of power plants, ensuring continuous operation and reliability of mechanical systems. Electrical Diploma Trainees are responsible for installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of electrical equipment such as lighting systems, cables, switchgear, relays, busbars, and protective devices. Mining Diploma Trainees are typically deployed at NTPC-operated coal mining sites for operational and technical responsibilities. C&I (Control and Instrumentation) Diploma Trainees handle installation, calibration, and maintenance of instruments like sensors, flow meters, pressure gauges, and control systems used for plant automation and monitoring.
Exam Salient Features
The NTPC Diploma Trainee recruitment is conducted at the national level by NTPC. The selection process generally includes an online written examination conducted in two stages. Applications are submitted online, and selected candidates may be posted at NTPC locations across India. The recruitment cycle is usually conducted annually, subject to vacancy availability.
Exam Dates (Previous Cycle Reference)
Since the 2022 notification has not yet been released, candidates can refer to the 2020 recruitment timeline for reference. The notification was issued on 22 November 2020, applications were accepted from 23 November to 12 December 2020, Stage I was held on 30 January 2021, Stage II took place in March 2021, and the final result was declared on 21 June 2021.
Salary Structure
Selected candidates undergo training for two years at NTPC coal mining sites and receive a consolidated stipend of ₹24,000 per month. After successful completion of training, they are placed in the W7 grade with a basic pay of ₹24,000. The overall monthly gross salary, including Industrial Dearness Allowance and other benefits, is approximately ₹55,325. Employees are also eligible for additional allowances such as HRA, DA, TA, and other applicable benefits.
Perks and Allowances
After confirmation and career progression, employees may receive benefits as per company rules and applicable pay structure. These include Dearness Allowance, Medical facilities, Detachment allowance, Leave encashment, Pension-related benefits, and House Rent Allowance where applicable.
Application Process
The application process is conducted online through the official NTPC website. Candidates must register, fill in personal and educational details, upload required documents, pay the application fee, and submit the form. It is advised to keep a printed copy of the final application for future reference.
Documents Required
Applicants should keep a valid mobile number and email ID, scanned photograph, scanned signature, and payment details ready while filling out the application form.
Application Fee
The application fee is ₹300 for General, OBC, and EWS candidates, while SC, ST, PwBD, Ex-Servicemen, and female candidates are exempted from paying the fee.
Admit Card
Admit cards are released separately for each stage of the examination on the official NTPC website. Candidates need to log in using their registration details to download and print the admit card for examination purposes.
Exam Centres
Candidates must select their preferred examination city during the application process. Once selected, changes are generally not permitted. NTPC reserves the right to modify or add centres based on administrative requirements. Examination centres are available across multiple states and major cities, including locations in Uttar Pradesh such as Prayagraj, Lucknow, Kanpur, Varanasi, and others.

The result is published on the official NTPC website. Candidates can check their status by visiting the results section, locating the relevant recruitment link, and downloading the merit list or result document.

To be eligible for the NTPC Diploma Trainee Phase II Examination, candidates need to qualify the NTPC Diploma Trainee Phase I Examination with the required cut off as decided by authority.
Adequate number of candidates state-wise and category-wise as decided by the Company will be shortlisted for the Stage II Examination.
NTPC DIPLOMA TRAINEE 2022 : EXAM PATTERN
The Phase II (Technical Test) of the NTPC Diploma Trainee Examination is conducted As Objective Type Online Computer Based Test containing 120 Questions and 120 marks.
The section wise distribution of Questions & marks is given below :-

The Examination for NTPC Diploma Trainee shall be conducted as an Online Computer Based Test. The Questions shall be Objective type Multiple choice in nature.

Sections of the test
1. General English
2. Quantitative Aptitude & Reasoning
Questions from above-mentioned sections are asked in NTPC Diploma Trainee Examination, where each question comprises 1 mark, thus summing up to 120 marks.
Marking Scheme Highlights
There will be a penalty for wrong answers marked by the candidates
1. One mark will be awarded for each correct answer
2. For each wrong answer marked, one fourth of the marks assigned to the question will be deducted from those obtained.
3. No marks will be deducted for unattempted questions
NTPC DIPLOMA TRAINEE 2022 : IMPORTANT FACTS
1. Total of 120 questions shall be asked from all the sections combined
2. Each question shall be of one mark.
3. There shall be a penalty of 0.25 mark for every wrong answer.

Note :- The candidates who qualify for the NTPC Diploma Trainee Phase I Examination with the required cut-off as decided by the company are eligible for NTPC Diploma Trainee Phase-II Examination.
