COUNSELLING PROCESS & CUTOFFS

The counselling (also called seat allotment/admission confirmation) is primarily online through the NPAT portal (npat.nmims.edu), with some offline elements for document verification or campus-specific rounds (especially for non-Mumbai campuses like Indore, Hyderabad, Chandigarh). No GD/PI/WAT is required for most core UG programs (BBA, B.Com (Hons.), B.Sc. Finance/Economics, etc.)—it’s merit-based.

Step-by-Step Process:

Merit List Release — After results (post-exam window), NMIMS publishes merit lists (first, second, and possibly more if seats remain) on the portal. Lists are program- and campus-specific, based on your best NPAT score (from up to 3 attempts), normalized if needed.

Check Merit List — Log in to your dashboard (using registration credentials) to view if shortlisted, your rank, and allotted program/campus (based on preferences chosen during registration).

Seat Allotment & Confirmation — If allotted:

Download the admission/offer letter.

Upload required documents (e.g., 10th/12th marksheets, category certificate if applicable, ID proof).

Pay the admission confirmation fee (part of tuition; non-refundable in most cases) within the strict deadline.

Document Verification & Final Admission — Online upload + possible physical verification at the allotted campus (some sources note offline counselling rounds at campuses like Mumbai for main programs, or regional for others to reduce travel). Bring originals if attending in person.

Multiple Rounds — If seats remain vacant after the first round, subsequent merit lists/counselling rounds occur (e.g., late June–July). Update 12th marks if predicted/appearing.

Final Steps — Pay remaining fees, complete registration, and secure your seat. Admission is provisional until full verification.

Key Notes: Seat allocation considers NPAT merit rank, program/campus preferences, seat availability (~3,900+ total), and reservations (if applicable). Missing deadlines leads to forfeiture. For newer campuses or specific programs, counselling may include campus visits.

Cutoffs

NMIMS does not officially publish fixed cutoffs (no minimum marks/ranks announced in advance). Instead:

Admission is purely merit-based via NPAT scores ? higher score = better chance for preferred campus/program.

Cutoffs (closing ranks/scores) are derived from previous merit lists and vary yearly based on:

Exam difficulty.

Number of applicants/attempts.

Seat availability.

Candidate performance.

Indicative/Expected Cutoff Trends (based on recent cycles like 2024–2025; out of ~120 marks, normalized):

Mumbai Campus (most competitive, flagship): 80–95+ marks (often 85–96 for top programs like BBA, BBA FinTech, B.Sc. Finance).

Other Campuses (Bengaluru, Navi Mumbai, Hyderabad, etc.): 70–85 marks (lower for less preferred options).

Section-wise averages: ~25–30+ per section (Quantitative, Reasoning, English) for competitive calls.

Good score for strong chance: 85+ overall (especially for Mumbai BBA variants).

These are estimates—actuals depend on the year’s pool. Mumbai demands the highest due to demand and prestige.

SELECTION PROCESS

The NMIMS NPAT (National Test for Programs After Twelfth) is the primary entrance exam for admission to various undergraduate programs (e.g., BBA, B.Com (Hons.), B.Sc. Finance/Economics, BBA FinTech, Integrated BBA-MBA, BA Liberal Arts, BBA Branding & Advertising, etc.) across SVKM’s NMIMS campuses (Mumbai, Bengaluru, Navi Mumbai, Hyderabad, Indore, Chandigarh, Ahmedabad, etc.).

As of January 2026, the official selection process for NPAT 2026 follows the standard merit-based approach from recent cycles (detailed in the Admission Handout/Brochure available on npat.nmims.edu). No major changes have been announced yet—always download the latest Admission Handout 2026 from the official site for confirmed details, as it includes program-specific criteria, seat matrix, and any updates.

Step-by-Step Selection Process

Registration & Exam Appearance

Complete one-time online registration on npat.nmims.edu.

Select test category (NPAT), preferred schools/programs, and campus preferences (you can choose multiple; up to 5 programs in some cases).

Schedule your exam slot within the test window (typically January/March to May; candidates can attempt up to 3 times—the best/highest score is considered).

Alternative entry: Some programs accept SAT/ACT scores instead of (or in addition to) NPAT.

NPAT Exam & Scoring

Computer-based online test (no negative marking).

Sections: Quantitative & Numerical Ability, Reasoning & General Intelligence, Proficiency in English Language.

Duration: Around 100 minutes.

Results are declared post each attempt or after the window (check login portal).

The best score from up to 3 attempts is used for merit.

Merit List Preparation

Merit lists are prepared purely based on NPAT scores (best of attempts) or equivalent SAT/ACT scores.

No Group Discussion (GD), Personal Interview (PI), or Written Ability Test (WAT) for most NPAT-based UG programs (direct merit-based for commerce/management streams).

Normalization may apply if needed (due to multiple slots), but primarily score-based ranking.

Separate merit lists may be released for different programs/campuses, with preferences considered.

Counseling & Admission Rounds

Merit lists are published on the official website (via applicant login).

Shortlisted candidates proceed to counseling (online/offline rounds, sometimes campus-specific for places like Indore, Hyderabad, Chandigarh).

Seat allotment is based on:

NPAT merit rank/score.

Program and campus preferences submitted during registration.

Availability of seats (total ~3,900+ across campuses).

Multiple rounds of merit lists/counseling may occur if seats remain vacant.

Pay fees and confirm admission within deadlines (document verification required: 10+2 marksheet, etc.).

Update 12th/final marks if appearing/predicted during process.

Key Notes

No GD/PI for core NPAT UG admissions (unlike some MBA programs).

Cutoffs vary by program/campus (highest for Mumbai BBA; not officially announced but derived from merit lists—often competitive due to high demand).

Eligibility must be met (e.g., 50-60%+ in 10+2, Math/Stats for certain programs like BBA FinTech/Finance).

Admission is purely merit-based; no management quota/donation seats for these programs.

Normalisation of Marks

To evaluate candidate’s fair performance and announce result of NPAT, Normalization method is used. In this method, each candidate’s marks are collected and processed through statistical combination to make the marks fit for comparison. For normalization process, it is important to know the total number of applicants and number of candidates who have obtained less mark than those whose score will be calculated. Below, we have stated the formula and process applied in NPAT normalization:

Formula used for calculating the Percentile  =  No. of applicants with marks less than the candidate × 100
                                                                                            Total number of Candidates
