LATEST UPDATE 2026

The National Institute of Technology (NIT), Jamshedpur is expected to announce the NIMCET 2026 exam date soon. Currently, the examination is likely to be held in June 2026. The NIT MCA Common Entrance Test (NIMCET) is a national-level entrance examination conducted by the NITs for admission to MCA programmes. The exam authorities are likely to start the registration process by the last week of March 2026. Once released, the official notification and application link will be made available on the official NIMCET website.

PROGRAM OFFERED

The NIMCET (National Institute of Technology Master of Computer Applications Common Entrance Test) is a national-level entrance examination held every year for admission to MCA programmes offered by participating NITs and IIITs.

NIMCET 2026 is a national-level entrance examination conducted for admission to the three-year Master of Computer Applications (MCA) programme offered by 13 leading institutes, including 11 NITs and 2 IIITs.

HOW TO APPLY

The NIMCET 2026 registration process involves several steps, including filling out the application form, uploading required documents, and paying the application fee. Candidates can follow the steps outlined below to complete the NIMCET 2026 application form successfully.

Application Process

  1. Registration:Candidates have to visit theofficial website at nimcet.in and click on the ‘apply for NIMCET’. They have to enter their e-mail ID along with the 10-digit mobile number. An mail was sent to the candidates for the purpose of validation and creating a unique password. 

  2. Application Form: After successful registration and login, candidates had to proceed with NIMCET application form. They have to fill the personal and academic details. They also have to opt for three cities for exam centres in the order of preference.

  3. Uploading documents: Candidates will next have to upload their photograph and scanned copy of signature in NIMCET application form. Relevant documents such as proof of identity, date of birth (SSLC/ 10th Marks Card), all other marks cards etc. and the category/ caste/ PwD certificate(s) have to be uploaded. 

  4. Application fees: After providing all the necessary information, candidates have to pay the NIMCET application fee online only through net banking or credit/debit cards.

  1. Submission of the application:  After the paying of the NIMCET application fee, candidates have to finally submit the application form. They have to download and save the soft copy of the application submitted for their reference.

EXAM CENTERS

ADMIT CARD

The NIMCET 2026 admit card is expected to be released online during the first or second week of May 2026. Registered candidates can download their hall ticket by logging in with their credentials. The admit card will contain important information such as the exam centre, date, timings, guidelines, and other instructions.

Candidates must carry the admit card along with a valid original ID proof (Aadhaar Card, Passport, PAN Card, Voter ID, School ID, or any government-approved ID) to the exam centre. Entry will be denied without these documents.

Candidates can follow the below-mentioned steps to download admit card for the NIMCET exam:

1: Open the official website

2: Click NIMCET admit card link  

3: Log in using your e-mail ID and password

4: NIMCET admit card will be displayed on the screen 

5: Candidates can download and take the printout of admit card on an A4 size sheet

EXAM RESULT

The NIMCET 2026 results are expected to be declared on nimcet.admissions.nic.in around the last week of June 2026. Candidates can view their scores and ranks by logging in with the necessary credentials. The authorities will not release the results through any other mode. The results will display the performance of candidates in the examination, and those who qualify will be eligible to participate in the NIMCET 2026 counselling process.

Candidate can check their results by follow the steps listed below:

2: Candidates will have to click on the NIMCET result link.

3: Next, candidates will have to log in using their registered email ID and password

4: NIMCET score/rank will be displayed on the screen.

5: Candidates will be able to download their scores in the form of a score/rank card.

6: Take a printout for future reference as it will be required at the time of the admission process


COUNSELLING PROCESS & CUTOFFS

The NIMCET 2026 counselling process is expected to begin in the fifth week of June 2026 after the results are announced. To take part, candidates must register online at nimcet.admissions.nic.in by paying a Rs. 1,000 counselling fee, tentatively by the second week of July 2026. After registration, candidates need to fill and lock their institute choices.

The seat allotment will be conducted in three rounds, based on factors such as rank, choice preferences, and seat availability. Candidates who receive a seat must report to the allotted institute within the given schedule to complete admission formalities.

SELECTION PROCESS

The NIMCET 2026 selection process is entirely merit-based, determined by the rank secured in the national-level entrance exam. After results are announced, qualified candidates must register for centralized online counselling at nimcet.admissions.nic.in, pay the counselling fee, fill and lock institute choices, and upload required documents. Seat allotment is conducted in multiple rounds based on rank, category, preferences, and seat availability across 11 NITs and 2 IIITs. Selected candidates must pay the seat acceptance fee online and then report to the allotted institute for final document verification and admission.

EXAM PATTERN

The NIMCET 2026 exam pattern outlines the structure and format of questions for the entrance test. The examination will be conducted in online Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode, featuring multiple-choice questions (MCQs). The question paper will be available only in English.

Mode of Examination

NIMCET Examination will be held as an Online Computer Based Test. Questions will be Objective type Multiple choice in nature.

Medium of Examination

The question paper will be asked in English language only.

Marking Scheme

1- Each correctly answered question will be awarded full marks and each wrongly answered question will lead to 25% NEGATIVE mark.

2- No marks will be awarded for un-attempted questions.

3- The negative marking will be done if more than one answer indicated against a question.

4- The candidates have to mark the responses as per the instructions appearing in the screen of NIMCET online examination.

ELIGIBLITY CRITERIA

Candidates seeking to take admission in MCA courses have to fulfil the specified NIMCET eligibility criteria. Candidates not meeting the NIMCET eligibility criteria will not be allowed to appear for the entrance exam. The candidate’s eligibility for NIMCET Examination is based on the fulfilment of the following conditions:-

To appear in the NIMCET entrance exam, there is no age limit.

Educational Qualification

Indian Nationals securing at least 60% marks in aggregate or 6.5 CGPA on a 10-point scale (55% marks or 6.0 CGPA on a 10-point scale in case of SC/ ST/PwD) in

(i) B.Sc. / B.Sc. (Hons) / BCA / BIT / B.Voc. (Computer Science/ Computer Applications)/ BBA (Computer Applications) of minimum three years full-time programme from a recognized University with Mathematics/ Statistics as one of the subjects


OR


(ii) B.E./ B.Tech. from a recognized University are eligible to appear for NIMCET.

Conversion of scored marks from CGPA to percentage and vice-versa is not permitted. (CGPA other than 10-point scale will be converted to 10-point scale based on Unitary method)

NOTE. Students who have completed/completing B.Sc./ B.Sc. (Hons)/BCA/ BIT programme of 3 years from Open Universities are also eligible to apply provided the programme is approved by UGC / AICTE and Distance Education Council (DEC) of Govt. of India.
