TOP COLLEGES & SEATS
The primary institutions accepting BITSAT scores are the BITS Pilani campuses—Pilani (Rajasthan), Goa, and Hyderabad—which are well known for strong placements in CSE and core engineering branches. While a few other institutions such as IIT Patna and NIIT University may consider similar entrance credentials, the BITS campuses remain the main and most prominent destinations through BITSAT.
BITSAT primarily grants admission to Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS) Pilani campuses in India:
BITS Pilani (Pilani Campus, Rajasthan) — The flagship and most prestigious, established in 1964, ranked 11th in NIRF Engineering 2025, excellent for research, placements (avg. ?18-30 LPA+), and core branches like CSE (highest cutoff).
BITS Pilani, K K Birla Goa Campus — Strong in tech/coding culture, good infrastructure, slightly lower cutoffs than Pilani, popular for CSE/ECE.
BITS Pilani, Hyderabad Campus — Modern facilities, growing reputation, offers B.Pharm alongside engineering, competitive for core branches.
These three Indian campuses (Pilani, Goa, Hyderabad) are the main ones accepting BITSAT scores for Integrated First Degree programs (B.E./B.Tech equivalent, B.Pharm, M.Sc.). Dubai Campus admits partly via BITSAT but focuses more on 12th marks/international criteria. No widespread acceptance in other colleges—primarily BITS system only (some mentions of NIIT University are outdated/limited).
Seats
Reliable education portals and analyses estimate the total UG seats through BITSAT to be around 3000 (may vary slightly year-to-year due to minor adjustments). This has increased gradually over time (e.g., earlier years were lower, around 2000–2500 in some reports).
Expected campus-wise distribution (approximate)
BITS Pilani (Pilani campus): 1040–1045 seats (largest/oldest campus, highest share).
BITS Hyderabad: 1080 seats (often the highest in recent estimates).
BITS Goa (K K Birla Goa campus): 850–855 seats.

EXAM PATTERN
‘Computer Based Online test’ means the candidate sits in front of a computer and the questions are presented on the computer monitor and the candidate answers the questions on the computer by using a keyboard or mouse. Each computer is connected to a server, which prepares the question set and delivers it to the candidate on the computer. This is unlike the traditional paper-pencil-based test, which is generally offered on a single day to all candidates. Salient features of BITSAT are given below:
A candidate may appear a maximum of two times in BITSAT.- The examination will be organized in two sets of dates, BITSAT Session 1 and BITSAT Session 2, separated by a gap of a few weeks. The candidate can choose the Center, the Day, and the slot of his/her convenience to take the test.
- A candidate may opt to appear twice, even at the time of the first application. Such a candidate will then choose one slot from the first set of dates and another from the second.
- A candidate may opt for any session 1 or 2 or ‘BOTH’.
- A candidate may also choose to appear the second time after the first appearance. To facilitate this process, there will be a period during which candidates who have appeared during Session 1 but had not originally exercised the option to appear twice, will be allowed to apply to appear a second time.
- The application window will reopen immediately for Session 2 after the first date of Session 1 of BITSAT.
Test Format: Each session of BITSAT will be of 3 hours duration (without a break), comprising the following 4 parts:
Part I: Physics
Part II: Chemistry
Part III: (a) English Proficiency and (b) Logical Reasoning
Part IV: Mathematics or Biology (For BPharm candidates)
All questions are of objective type (multiple choice questions); each question with a choice of four answers, only one being the correct choice. Each correct answer fetches 3 marks, while each incorrect answer has a penalty of 1 mark (-1 mark).
No marks are awarded for questions not attempted. While the candidate can skip a question, the computer will not allow the candidate to choose more than one option as the correct answer.
There will be 130 questions in all. The number of questions in each part is as follows:
Parts | Subject | No of Questions |
Part I | Physics | 30 |
Part II | Chemistry | 30 |
Part III | English Proficiency & Logical Reasoning | 10 & 20 |
Part IV | Mathematics/Biology (For B. Pharm) | 40 |
Total | 130 | |
There is no time limit for individual parts of the test. The candidate can go back and change any of his/her answers among the 130 questions. If a candidate answers all 130 questions (without skipping any question), the candidate will have an option of attempting 12 (twelve) extra questions,
If there is still time left. These extra questions will be from Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics/Biology, and Logical reasoning only; with three questions from each of them. Further, once the candidate has opted for extra questions, he/she cannot go back for correction of any of the earlier answered 130 questions.

Popular branches like B.E. Computer Science saw drops compared to 2024 (e.g., Pilani from 327 to 304, Goa from 301 to 274, Hyderabad from 298 to 270) — likely due to exam difficulty, applicant pool, or seat adjustments.
M.Sc. programmes (with dual-degree option) have lower cutoffs (typically 200–260 range, highest for Economics 251 at Pilani).
B.Pharm remains the lowest (151–168 across campuses).
Counseling Process
BITSAT Counselling 2026: BITS Pilani will announce the BITSAT 2026 counselling dates online once the exam process concludes and the results are declared. Candidates declared qualified as per the BITSAT result will be eligible to participate in the counselling of BITSAT 2026. To register for the counselling, candidates have to submit their Class 12 marks and course preferences online at bitsadmission.com.
While filling in the choices of course and campus, candidates must be careful of the preference order. Moreover, the BITSAT 2026 counselling fee also has to be paid online through net banking, credit card, or debit card. The authorities will announce the seat allotment result in multiple iterations.

The section wise distribution of Questions is given below :-
Subject | No of questions | |
Part 1 | Physics | 30 |
Part 2 | Chemistry | 30 |
Part 3 | English Proficiency | 10 |
Logical Reasoning | 20 | |
Part 4 | Mathematics/Biology (For B. Pharm) | 40 |
Total | 130 | |
1- There is no time limit for individual parts of the test. The candidate can go back and change any of his/her answers to the 130 questions.
2- If a candidate answers all the 130 questions (without skipping any question), the candidate will have an option of attempting 12 (twelve) extra questions, if there is still time left. These extra questions will be from Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics/Biology, and Logical reasoning only; three questions from each of them. Further, once the candidate has opted for extra questions, he/she cannot go back for correction of any of the earlier answered 130 questions.
3- The questions are so designed that a good student will be able to answer 130 questions in 180 minutes. The extra questions (a maximum of 12) will give a chance to highly meritorious candidates to score higher. However, candidates should keep in mind the fact that there is negative marking for wrong answers and any attempt to answer the questions by pure guessing of the answers is not likely to have any advantage, but may result in a reduction in the total score.
4- The questions will be selected at random from a large question bank. Different candidates will get different question sets. An expert committee will ensure that the question sets are of comparable difficulty IV level, content, question type etc. In this matter, the decision of the expert committee will be final and binding on the candidate.
Mode of Examination
The BITSAT examination is conducted as an Online computer based test. The questions asked are of Objective type multiple choice in nature.
Medium of Examination
All the questions and instructions of the test will be in English only. Candidates should bring a pen for the purpose of rough work, signing etc. Blank sheets for rough work will be provided, if required. Calculators and logarithmic tables are not allowed in the test centers. Candidates are not allowed to bring any other personal belongings such as mobiles.
Marking Scheme
Sections of the test are
1- Physics
2- Chemistry
3- English Proficiency & Logical Reasoning
4- Mathematics/ Biology
Marking Scheme Highlights
1- Each correct answer fetches 3 marks
2- Each incorrect answer has a penalty of 1 mark (-1 mark)
3- No marks are awarded for questions not attempted
