Exam Syllabus

The syllabus for Bihar Police Special Branch Constable 2026 is prescribed by the Central Selection Board of Constables (CSBC) under Advertisement No. 01/2026. The written examination consists of two papers — Paper I (Hindi – Qualifying) and Paper II (General Studies – Merit Based). The exam will be conducted at an Intermediate (10+2) level and all questions will be objective type (MCQs).

Paper I – Hindi (Qualifying)
Paper I is only qualifying in nature, and candidates must secure a minimum of 30% marks to pass. The marks obtained in this paper will not be considered for the final merit list.

The Hindi section focuses on basic language understanding and grammar. It includes topics such as Hindi grammar fundamentals, correct word usage, sentence formation, and identification of grammatical errors. Candidates should also prepare Varnamala, including swar and vyanjan along with their classification and usage.

Important grammar areas include Sandhi and Samas (types such as swar sandhi, vyanjan sandhi, visarga sandhi, tatpurush, dwand, bahuvrihi, etc.), as well as Tatsam and Tadbhav words to understand the difference between original Sanskrit forms and their Hindi derivatives. Vocabulary-based topics like synonyms (paryayvachi), antonyms (vilom), and multiple-meaning words (anekarthi shabd) are also included.

Other important areas are idioms and proverbs (muhavare and lokoktiyan) with their meanings and usage, along with grammatical concepts such as gender (ling), number (vachan), case (karak), tenses (kaal), voice (vachya), prefixes and suffixes (upsarg and pratyay), and sentence correction (vakya shuddhi). The paper also includes unseen passages (apathit gadyansh) to test reading comprehension and understanding.

Paper II – General Studies (Merit Based)
Paper II is the most important stage of the written examination, as the marks obtained in this paper will be used to prepare the final merit list. This section evaluates the candidate’s overall awareness and basic academic knowledge.

The General Science portion covers fundamental concepts of Physics, Chemistry, and Biology at the 10+2 level. Physics topics include motion, force, work and energy, light, sound, and electricity. Chemistry focuses on elements, compounds, chemical reactions, acids, and bases. Biology includes human body systems, diseases, nutrition, and environmental concepts. The emphasis is on basic understanding rather than advanced calculations.

The Indian History section includes Ancient, Medieval, and Modern History. Important areas are the Indus Valley Civilization, Vedic period, Maurya and Gupta empires, Delhi Sultanate, Mughal period, British rule, and the Indian Freedom Movement along with key leaders and events.

In Geography, candidates should prepare physical features of India such as mountains, rivers, plains, climate, and soil. It also covers population distribution, agriculture, industries, and natural resources like minerals, forests, and water resources.

The Indian Polity section includes the basic structure of the Constitution, Fundamental Rights and Duties, Directive Principles, and the functioning of the President, Prime Minister, Parliament, and Panchayati Raj system.

The Indian Economy portion focuses on basic economic concepts such as GDP, inflation, budget, banking fundamentals, agriculture and rural economy, and important government schemes.

Current Affairs is a crucial part of the syllabus and includes national and international events, government initiatives, awards and honors, books and authors, sports, important days, and recent appointments. Candidates should especially focus on events from the last 6–12 months.

A dedicated section on Bihar-specific knowledge is also important for scoring. This includes the history of Bihar, freedom fighters from the state, geography (rivers, districts, boundaries), culture and traditions, major festivals, famous personalities, and important historical and tourist sites.

Important Points
Paper I is qualifying in nature and requires a minimum of 30% marks. Paper II determines the final merit list. All questions will be objective type (MCQs) and the overall difficulty level will be based on the Intermediate (10+2) standard. Special attention should be given to Bihar-related topics, as they carry significant weight in the examination.
