The CLAT PG 2026 examination is scheduled to be conducted on Sunday, 7 December 2025 in offline (pen-and-paper) mode. The exam will be held in a single shift from 2:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. across the country. For PwD category candidates, additional time will be provided and the exam will be conducted from 2:00 P.M. to 4:40 P.M. (subject to revision in case of necessity).

Through CLAT, approximately 3,400 to 3,500 seats are offered each year across participating National Law Universities (NLUs).

Out of these, around 3,200 seats are for UG programmes (five-year integrated LLB), and about 1,200 seats are for PG programmes (LLM). The exact seat count may vary slightly each year depending on participating NLUs and seat revisions.



HOW TO APPLY

To apply for the CLAT UG exam, candidates must follow a structured online application process outlined by the Consortium of National Law Universities. Below is a step-by-step guide to help you apply successfully:

Visit the Official Website:

Go to the official CLAT website: consortiumofnlus.ac.in.

Locate and click on the “CLAT 2026” link on the homepage.

Register an Account:

Click on the “New Registration” tab.

Provide your personal mobile number and email ID to create an account.

An OTP (One-Time Password) will be sent to your registered mobile number for validation.

After verifying the OTP, set a password and complete the registration process.

Log In to Your Account:

Use your registered mobile number and password to log in to your CLAT account.

Fill Out the Application Form:

Complete the application form with accurate details in the following sections:

Personal Information: Enter your name, parents’ names, date of birth, gender, nationality, and NRI status (if applicable). Ensure names match your certificates/mark sheets/identity proof.

Communication Details: Provide your permanent and correspondence address, email ID, and phone number.

Educational Qualifications: Enter details of your Class 10 and Class 12 exams, including board, passing status, percentage/CGPA, and year of passing. If appearing for Class 12 in March/April, select “Appearing in Qualifying Exam.”

Category and Reservation: Specify your category (General/OBC/SC/ST/PwD/BPL) and upload relevant certificates if applicable.

Test Centre Preferences: Select at least three preferred exam centres from the available list (over 130 centres across India). Choose centres based on proximity and convenience to avoid last-minute issues.

Review all details carefully, as changes to program, category, or BPL fields are not allowed after submission.

COUNSELLING PROCESS & CUTOFFS

Filling NLU Preferences

CLAT cutoffs vary every year based on factors like exam difficulty, number of applicants, seat availability, and category. Cutoffs are usually expressed in CLAT ranks, not marks.

For top NLUs (General category), the usual cutoff ranges are:

WBNUJS Kolkata: Rank 250 to 400

GNLU Gandhinagar: Rank 400 to 700

NLU Jodhpur / NLIU Bhopal: Rank 700 to 1,200

For mid-tier NLUs, cutoffs generally fall between Rank 1,200 to 3,000, while newer NLUs may have cutoffs extending up to Rank 6,000 to 8,000 for the General category. Reserved category cutoffs are comparatively lower.

OVERVIEW

The Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) is a national – level entrance exam for admissions to undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) law programs offered by 22 National Law Universities around the country. CLAT is organized by the Consortium of National Law Universities consisting of the representative universities. Most private and self – financed graduate schools in India likewise utilize these scores for law affirmations. SELECTION PROCESS

1. Online Registration and Application

Candidates must first register online through the official website of the Consortium of National Law Universities.

CLAT PG Examination shall be held as an Offline Test comprising a total of 120 Questions of total 120 Marks. The total duration for the examination shall be 120 Minutes.

Mode Of Examination:

CLAT PG Examination is held as an Offline Test comprising Multiple Type Questions (MCQs)

Medium Of Examination:

Questions in CLAT PG examination shall be available in English Language only.

Marking Scheme:

Total of 120 MCQ’s will be asked of 1 Mark each.

Marking Scheme Highlights:

1. One Mark will be awarded for each correct answer

2. There will be a negative marking of 0.25 marks for every wrong answer given by the candidate.

3. No marks will be deducted for unattempted Questions.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

1. Educational Qualification

Candidates must have completed an LL.B. degree (3-year or 5-year) from a recognized university or institution.

The university should be recognized by the Bar Council of India.

Candidates appearing in the final year of LL.B. are also eligible to apply, provided they complete their degree before admission.

2. Minimum Marks Requirement

General / OBC / PWD / NRI / PIO / OCI candidates: Minimum 50% marks in the LL.B. degree.

SC / ST candidates: Minimum 45% marks in the LL.B. degree.

3. Age Limit

There is no upper age limit for applying to the CLAT PG examination.

4. Nationality

The following candidates are eligible to apply:

Indian citizens

NRI (Non-Resident Indian) candidates

PIO (Person of Indian Origin) candidates

OCI (Overseas Citizen of India) candidates

Foreign nationals may apply if the concerned **National Law Universities offer seats for them.

5. Additional Eligibility Conditions

Candidates must produce their qualifying degree and relevant documents during the admission process.

If the candidate fails to meet the required marks or eligibility at the time of admission, their candidature may be cancelled.

6. Admission Through CLAT PG

Admission to the LL.M. programme in participating National Law Universities (NLUs) is offered based on the CLAT PG score and counselling process conducted by the Consortium of NLUs.
