PROGRAMS OFFERED
The Common Entrance Examination for Design (CEED), conducted by IIT Bombay, qualifies candidates for admission to postgraduate programs in design, primarily the Master of Design (M.Des) and, in some cases, Ph.D. in Design.
CEED scores are used by participating institutes (core IITs, IISc, and IIITDMs) and additional result-sharing institutes (private/deemed universities and others that accept CEED scores for their M.Des admissions). Note that there is no centralized counseling like for some other exams—qualified candidates must apply separately to each institute, which may conduct interviews, portfolio reviews, or additional tests.
Core Participating Institutes and Programs
These premier institutes directly use CEED scores for admissions:
IISc Bangalore (Centre for Product Design and Manufacturing): M.Des in Product Design, Development & Management (also considers GATE-qualified candidates); Ph.D. in Design.
IIT Bombay (IDC School of Design): M.Des in Industrial Design, Communication Design, Animation Design, Interaction Design, Mobility and Vehicle Design; M.Des by Research; Ph.D. in Design.
IIT Delhi (Department of Design): M.Des in Industrial Design; Ph.D. in Design.
IIT Guwahati (Department of Design): M.Des in Design; Ph.D. in Design.
IIT Hyderabad (Department of Design): M.Des in Visual Design, Product Design & Interaction Design; Ph.D. in Design.
IIT Jodhpur (School of Design): M.Des in XR Design, Smart Product Design.
IIT Kanpur (Design Programme): M.Des in Design Entrepreneurship, Design Research & Design Practice; Ph.D. in Design.
IIT Roorkee (Department of Design): M.Des in Industrial Design; Ph.D. in Design.
IIITDM Jabalpur (Design Discipline): M.Des in Design.
IIITDM Kancheepuram (School of Interdisciplinary Design & Innovation): M.Des in Integrated Product Design; Ph.D. in Design.
These institutes offer around 300+ seats across M.Des programs (exact intake varies yearly; e.g., IIT Bombay ~78, others vary from 15–50+).
Result-Sharing Institutes (Additional Institutes Accepting CEED 2026 Scores for M.Des)
These institutes have confirmed they will admit students via CEED scores for 2026-2027 admissions (check their websites for specific specializations, eligibility, and application processes):
Mahindra University, Hyderabad
Jain (Deemed-to-be-University), Bengaluru
GLS University, Gujarat
MIT ID Indore – Avantika University
VIT School of Design (V-SIGN), Vellore Institute of Technology, Vellore (e.g., M.Des in Industrial Design)
Delhi Technological University (DTU), Delhi
DJ Academy of Design, Coimbatore
More result-sharing institutes may be updated on the official site.
TOP COLLEGES & SEATS
The top colleges accepting CEED scores for M.Des (Master of Design) and related programs are primarily the core participating institutes (premier government institutions like IITs and IISc). These are highly competitive due to reputation, faculty, infrastructure, placements, and design focus. Result-sharing institutes (mostly private/deemed universities) also accept CEED scores but are generally considered secondary options.
Top/Core Participating Institutes (Ranked by Prestige & Demand)
These offer the most sought-after M.Des programs. Total approximate M.Des seats across core institutes: around 300–320 (varies slightly yearly; exact final matrix is in the CEED brochure or institute websites post-results).
IIT Bombay (IDC School of Design) — Widely regarded as the top choice for design in India.
Specializations: Industrial Design, Communication Design, Animation Design, Interaction Design, Mobility & Vehicle Design.
Seats: ~78 (highest among IITs).
Strong alumni network, excellent placements (e.g., tech/design firms like Google, Microsoft, TCS, etc.).
IISc Bangalore (Centre for Product Design and Manufacturing) — Highly research-oriented and prestigious.
Program: M.Des in Product Design, Development & Management (or similar).
Seats: ~18.
Focus on engineering + design integration; great for product/innovation roles.
IIT Delhi (Department of Design) — Strong emphasis on industrial/user-centered design.
Seats: ~20 (some sources vary; confirm via official site).
Good for interdisciplinary work with engineering/tech.
IIT Hyderabad (Department of Design) — Emerging strong with modern facilities.
Specializations: Visual Design, Product Design, Interaction Design.
Seats: ~30.
IIT Guwahati (Department of Design) — Solid program with focus on usability and aesthetics.
Seats: ~33.
IIT Roorkee (Department of Design) — Growing department.
Seats: ~20.
IIITDM Jabalpur (Design Discipline) — Focus on design + manufacturing/tech.
Seats: ~30 (shared with GATE sometimes).
IIT Kanpur (Design Programme) — Research-heavy with entrepreneurship focus.
Seats: Varies (~15–25; check brochure).
Other notables: IIT Jodhpur (XR/Smart Product Design, newer but promising).
Total core seats: Around 302 (as per recent estimates from reliable sources like Shiksha, CollegeDekho, Careers360). Seats are category-reserved (GEN, OBC-NCL, SC, ST, EWS, PwD) per GoI norms—exact category-wise breakdown appears after results or in institute portals.
Result-Sharing Institutes (Additional Options)
These accept CEED scores but conduct their own admissions (interviews/portfolio). They offer more seats but lower competition than IITs/IISc:
Mahindra University, Hyderabad
Jain (Deemed-to-be University), Bengaluru
GLS University, Gujarat
MIT ID Indore – Avantika University
VIT School of Design, Vellore
Delhi Technological University (DTU), Delhi
DJ Academy of Design, Coimbatore
(Seat numbers not fixed/centralized; often 20–50+ per institute—check their sites directly.)
Key Notes
No centralized counseling/seat allocation like UCEED or GATE—apply separately to each institute after results. Shortlisting often involves interviews, portfolio reviews, and sometimes written tests.
Seat matrix is tentative until official release (usually in the CEED Information Brochure or institute admission portals). Download the latest brochure from https://www.ceed.iitb.ac.in/2026/ for precise details.
Admission chances depend on CEED rank, category, and performance in institute-specific rounds.
