When two or more applicants secure the same marks in NEET(UG) result such applicants can’t share the identical rank in NEET(UG) merit list. Hence, NTA has a tie-break mechanism for such situations. The following parameters are taken into consideration withinside the case of a tie in scores:
- Candidate with better marks in Biology may be assigned a better rank than the alternative candidate
2. If the marks scored withinside the Biology phase are equal, the candidate with better marks in Chemistry may be assigned a better rank than the alternative candidate
3. If marks scored in Biology and Chemistry are equal, the candidate with a lesser variety of wrong solutions may be assigned a better rank
4. Till the remaining 12 months, there has been an age component worried withinside the tie-breaking protocol, in which the candidate with older age may be given a better rank. But from this 12 months onwards, this component has been nullified.

OVERVIEW
NEET (UG), or the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test, is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) and serves as the sole entrance examination for candidates seeking admission to MBBS, BDS, AYUSH, Veterinary, and other medical courses in India. Through this exam, candidates become eligible for over 75,000 MBBS seats and 25,000 BDS seats across the country. Aspirants for BSc Nursing courses are also required to appear for NEET (UG). The exam is conducted in pen-and-paper mode and lasts three hours, during which candidates must answer multiple-choice questions (MCQs) from Physics, Chemistry, and Biology as per the prescribed NEET (UG) syllabus.
After the exam, NTA prepares a merit list with both All India and state-wise ranks based on the scores obtained. Admissions are offered through a counseling process according to the candidates’ ranks. Government and private medical colleges allocate seats under a 15% All India Quota (AIQ) and an 85% state quota. NEET (UG) is also the only valid exam for admissions to prestigious institutions such as AIIMS, JIPMER, and PGIMER.
