LATEST UPDATE 2026

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has completed the selection process for the intake of 3,717 Assistant Central Intelligence Officer (ACIO) Grade-II/Executive posts in 2025. The Tier-I (preliminary) exam was held in mid-September 2025, and the result for Tier-I has been declared with shortlisted candidates moving to the next stage. The Tier-II (descriptive/main) exam was conducted on 11 January 2026 for those who qualified Tier-I. As of now, Tier-II results and official interview dates (Tier-III/personality test) have not yet been released by MHA; generally, interviews are scheduled after Tier-II results are declared and communicated on the official portal mha.gov.in. Candidates are advised to keep checking the official website and notifications for the interview schedule and further instructions.

IMPORTANT DATES

As of 24 Feb. 2026, the IB ACIO 2025-26 recruitment (3717 vacancies) has completed Tier-1 (held 16-18 September 2025; results out on 21 November 2025). The Tier-2 descriptive exam has been conducted on 11 January 2026. Result is awaited. After decleration of result interview will be conducted.

SALARY STRUCTURE

The salary of an IB ACIO (Assistant Central Intelligence Officer) Grade-II/Executive selected through the IB ACIO Exam 2026 is based on Level 7 of the 7th Central Pay Commission (CPC) pay matrix. The basic pay starts at Rs.44,900 per month and can go up to Rs.1,42,400 with increments and promotions.

HOW TO APPLY

To apply for the IB ACIO Exam, candidates must follow an online application process through the official portal of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) once the recruitment notification is released. The process is expected to be similar to recent years and generally involves these steps:

The IB ACIO application fee structure is as follows:

Payments can be made online via debit/credit card, net banking, UPI, or SBI challan. The application process was open from July 19 to August 10, 2025, with offline fee payments accepted until August 12, 2025.

EXAM CENTERS

The Intelligence Bureau (IB) has designated a total of 148 exam centers across India for the IB ACIO examination. Candidates were required to select five preferred cities during the application process. The final allotment of the exam center was based on seat availability and preferences. The IB ACIO City Intimation Slip, which indicates the allotted exam city, was released on 5th September. Candidates can download their city intimation slip by logging into the official portal using their registration number and password.

ADMIT CARD

As of 24 Feb. 2026, the IB ACIO Tier-2 Admit Card 2025 for the exam scheduled on 11 January 2026 has been released on the official website (mha.gov.in).  Typically 1-2 days before the exam. Qualified candidates should regularly check the official MHA portal (or the recruitment login link) using their User ID and Password to download the hall ticket as soon as it goes live.

To download the admit card for the IB ACIO Exam, follow these steps once the admit card is officially released by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA):

1 – Visit the Official Website:
Go to the MHA official portal where the IB ACIO recruitment is being handled (often at mha.gov.in or the designated application portal mentioned in the exam notification).

2 – Find the Admit Card Link:

3 – Enter Your Details:

It is mandatory to carry a printed copy of the admit card along with a valid photo ID to the exam center.

EXAM RESULTS

The result of the IB ACIO (Assistant Central Intelligence Officer) Exam is released online by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) after the completion of each stage of the examination. The result is generally published in PDF format containing the roll numbers or names of qualified candidates. 

The IB ACIO exam results are released in stages:

Tier 1 Result – Declares candidates who have qualified for Tier 2. It is released online on the official IB/Ministry of Home Affairs website. Only qualifying marks are considered; Tier 1 scores are not added to the final selection.

Tier 2 Result – Shortlists candidates for the interview/personality test. Marks obtained in Tier 2 are combined with the interview score to prepare the final merit list.

Final Result – Released after the interview stage. It contains the final selection list of candidates for appointment as ACIO Grade-II.

OVERVIEW

The Intelligence Bureau Assistant Central Intelligence Officer (IB ACIO) Exam 2025-26 is a national-level recruitment test conducted by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) to select candidates for the post of ACIO Grade-II/Executive (Group ‘C’) in the Intelligence Bureau. The exam is held as per requirement and not on an annual basis. In this cycle, nearly 6–7 lakh candidates registered, and around 5 lakh appeared for the Tier-1 test.

SELECTION PROCESS

The selection process for the IB ACIO (Assistant Central Intelligence Officer) Exam 2026 consists of three main stages. First, candidates must appear in a Tier-I (Preliminary) written exam, Candidates who qualify Tier-I are shortlisted for the Tier-II (Main) exam, which includes a higher-level objective paper and an essay/English comprehension paper to evaluate analytical ability and communication skills. Those who clear both written stages are called for the Personality Test/Interview, where their suitability, intelligence, temperament, and overall personality are assessed by a panel.

Final selection is based on combined performance in Tier 2 and Interview; Tier 1 is only qualifying.

EXAM SYLLABUS

The IB ACIO exam has two stages: Tier 1 (Prelims) and Tier 2 (Mains), followed by an Interview. Tier 1 is objective and tests general awareness, quantitative aptitude, logical/analytical ability, and English language. Tier 2 is descriptive, focusing on essay writing, precis, comprehension, and grammar. Difficulty Level: Overall Moderate. Current Affairs & General Studies often decide cutoffs (focus on recent events). Reasoning and Quant are calculative but straightforward. English is basic to intermediate.

Only Indian Candidates are eligible to apply for IB ACIO Examination.

Age Limit

The minimum age limit prescribed for the post of IB ACIO is 18 Years and maximum of 27 Years. Age relaxation is applicable as per the various categories:-

1. For the post mentioned in here, only physically and mentally fit candidates are allowed.
2. The above-mentioned post is not identified suitable for any category of person with disabilities/pwd i.e. HH,OH,VH or Autism. Hence, they are advised not to apply.
3. Candidates need to keep this thing in mind that based on the combined performance in Tier-I, Tier-II and Tier-III/Interview, the candidates would be shortlisted for final selection subject to their Character and Antecedent verification followed by medical examination, etc.
