Overview
The Reserve Bank of India, established on 1 April 1935 under the Reserve Bank of India Act, 1934, is the central banking institution of the country. Its Central Office was initially set up in Kolkata and later shifted permanently to Mumbai in 1937. Since its nationalisation in 1949, RBI has been fully owned by the Government of India.
RBI conducts the Junior Engineer (JE) Examination to recruit qualified candidates for Civil and Electrical engineering positions. This recruitment offers an excellent opportunity for candidates seeking a stable and prestigious career in one of India’s most respected government institutions.

Vacancy Details
RBI has announced a total of 11 vacancies for Junior Engineer posts in Civil and Electrical disciplines across different recruitment zones. The vacancies are distributed category-wise and zone-wise, including provisions for reserved categories such as SC, ST, OBC, EWS, PwBD, and Ex-servicemen.

Salary Structure
Selected candidates will receive a starting basic pay of ₹33,900 per month (₹20,700 plus nine advance increments) in the pay scale of:
₹20,700 – 55,700 with periodic increments and allowances.
The initial gross monthly salary is approximately ₹80,236.
If official accommodation is not provided, House Rent Allowance (15% of basic pay) will be applicable along with other benefits as per RBI rules.

A candidate must be:
A citizen of India, or
A subject of Nepal or Bhutan, or
A Tibetan refugee who migrated before 1 January 1962, or

Exam Pattern
The RBI JE exam is conducted as an online objective test consisting of 180 questions for 300 marks. Total duration is 150 minutes with separate timing for each section.

Exam Centres
The RBI JE exam will be conducted in major cities across India, including Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Kolkata, Mumbai, Patna, Pune, Ranchi, Shillong, Thiruvananthapuram, Ernakulam, and others. Candidates can select their preferred centre during application.
Admit Card
The admit card will be released online on the RBI website. Candidates need to log in using their registration number and password/date of birth to download and print the call letter.
Result
The result will be published in PDF format on the RBI website. Candidates can check their roll number in the merit list using the search option. Qualified candidates will proceed to the next stage of the recruitment process.

After nationalisation in 1949, RBI became fully owned by the Government of India.
RBI conducts the Junior Engineer Examination to recruit qualified candidates for Civil and Electrical engineering roles. Every year, candidates from across the country apply for this exam to build a secure career in one of the most reputed government institutions in India.
Eligibility Criteria
Nationality
A candidate must be:
A citizen of India, or
A subject of Nepal or Bhutan, or
A Tibetan refugee who came to India before 1 January 1962 with the intention of permanent settlement, or
A person of Indian origin who migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, or certain East African countries (Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia) or Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.
Candidates belonging to categories other than Indian citizens must possess a certificate of eligibility issued by the Government of India. If such a certificate is required, the candidate may appear for the examination, but the final appointment will be subject to submission of the eligibility certificate.

Experience
Civil
Diploma holders must have at least 2 years of experience, and degree holders must have at least 1 year of experience in civil construction, maintenance of buildings, RCC work, tender preparation, and basic computer knowledge. A one-year graduate apprenticeship in a PSU is also acceptable.
Electrical
Diploma holders require 2 years of experience, and degree holders require 1 year of experience in electrical installations and maintenance of large buildings, including HT/LT systems, substations, DG sets, lifts, UPS, HVAC systems, fire alarms, CCTV, etc., or one-year PSU apprenticeship.
Exam Pattern
The RBI JE examination will be conducted as an online objective-type test consisting of 180 questions for a total of 300 marks. The total duration of the exam is 150 minutes, with separate time allotted for each section.

English Language Detailed Syllabus
This section is designed to assess grammar, vocabulary, and comprehension skills at approximately 10+2 level. Topics include passage-based questions, contextual word usage, sentence correction, rearrangement, and error identification. Candidates may be asked to analyze a passage, choose correct words for blanks, rearrange sentences logically, improve grammatical structure, or connect sentences using appropriate connectors. The questions are generally moderate in difficulty and focus on practical understanding of the English language.

This section evaluates logical thinking, analytical ability, and problem-solving skills, generally at 10th standard level. Questions may be based on charts and graphs (Data Interpretation), family relationships, logical conclusions (Syllogism), pattern recognition (Coding-Decoding), direction sense, figure series, ranking, decision-making situations, analogies, arguments, arithmetic-based reasoning, alphabet patterns, seating arrangements, and complex puzzles. Some topics such as puzzles and non-verbal series may be time-consuming, while others like direction sense or analogy are relatively easier.

Engineering Discipline (Civil) Detailed Syllabus
Paper I covers fundamental subjects such as building materials, estimating and costing, surveying, soil mechanics, hydraulics, transportation engineering, and environmental engineering. The focus is on material properties, construction practices, measurement techniques, soil behavior, fluid flow, road design, water supply, drainage, and pollution control. The standard of questions is at Diploma/Graduation level.
Paper II includes structural engineering topics such as theory of structures, concrete technology, RCC design, and steel structures. EXAM PATTERN
The Examination for RBI JE shall be held as an Objective Type Computer Based Test. It shall contain a total of 180 questions and 300 marks. The total time allotted is 150 minutes.

NOTE. A candidate has to qualify in each part of the Objective test separately.
Mod of Examination
The Examination for RBI JE Examination will be held as a Computer Based Examination and will contain only Objective Type, Multiple choice based questions.
Medium of Examination
The above tests except the Test of English Language will be available bilingually, i.e. in English and Hindi.
Marking Scheme
Sections of the test:

Questions from the above-mentioned sections are asked in RBI JE Examination where, English Language & General Intelligence & Reasoning section comprise 50 Questions and 50 Marks each and Engineering Discipline Paper I & II comprise 40 Questions of 100 marks each summing, up to 300 Marks.
Marking Scheme Highlights
1. There will be negative marks for wrong answers in the Objective tests.1/4th marks will be deducted for each wrong answer.
2. No marks will be deducted for the Unattempted Questions.
Standardisation of Scores: If the exam is conducted in more than one session, the scores obtained by each of the candidates in different sessions will be equated using equi-percentile method.
Language Proficiency Test
1. The candidates provisionally selected from the online examination will have to undergo a language proficiency test (LPT).
2. A candidate not proficient in the Official/Local Language/s would be disqualified.
Important Facts
1. Only Objective Type, Multiple choice based questions will be asked.
2. Question paper will contain a total of 180 Questions for 300 Marks.
3. For each wrong answer, 1/4th of the assigned marks will be deducted as negative marking.
4. Total duration of the question paper is of 150 Minutes.
5. Qualifying the Language proficiency test is mandatory for each post.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
The candidate’s eligibility for RBI JUNIOR ENGINEER Examination is based on the fulfilment of the following conditions:
Nationality
A candidate must be either :
1. A Citizen of India or
2. A subject of Nepal or
3. A subject of Bhutan or
4. A Tibetan Refugee who came over to India before 1st January 1962 to permanently settle in India or
5. A person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania (formerly Tanganyika and Zanzibar), Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia, and Vietnam to permanently settle in India, shall be a person in whose favour a certificate of eligibility has been issued by the Government of India.
6. Provided that a candidate belonging to categories (2), (3), (4) and (5) above shall be a person in whose favour a certificate of eligibility has been issued by the Government of India.
NOTE. A candidate in whose case a certificate of eligibility is necessary may be admitted to the Examination, but the offer of appointment will be given only after the necessary eligibility certificate has been issued to him by the Government of India.

Candidates born not earlier than 02/12/1994 and not later than 01/12/2004 (both days inclusive) are only eligible to apply.

Junior Engineer (Electrical): At least 2 years’ experience for Diploma holders or at least 1-year experience for Degree holders in execution and supervision of electrical installations in large buildings/ commercial buildings having HT/ LT substations, central AC plants, lifts, UPS, DG sets, CCTV, Fire alarm system, etc or a 1-year graduate apprenticeship training in a PSU.
