The Railway Recruitment Board released the RRB JE 2025 notification on 28 October 2025 for a total of 2,585 vacancies. The online application process started on 31 October 2025 and closed on 10 December 2025. Candidates were invited to apply for the posts of Junior Engineer (JE), Depot Material Superintendent (DMS), and Chemical & Metallurgical Assistant (CMA) through the official RRB website.
The Stage-I Computer Based Test (CBT) for CEN No. 05/2025 is scheduled to be conducted on 19 February, 20 February, and 3 March 2026. The exam city details will be released 10 days before the exam, and the admit card will be available 4 days prior to the candidateās exam date. The schedule for CBT Stage-II has not yet been announced, and candidates are advised to regularly check their respective regional RRB websites for updates.
Overview
The Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) conducts the Junior Engineer (RRB JE) examination to recruit qualified candidates for technical positions in Indian Railways. The recruitment includes posts such as Junior Engineer (JE), Depot Material Superintendent (DMS), Chemical & Metallurgical Assistant (CMA), and in some cases Chemical Supervisor/Research and Metallurgical Supervisor/Research.
This is a national-level central government examination conducted to select skilled candidates for various railway departments across India. The Stage-I CBT will be held on 19th and 20th February and 3rd March 2026, while the date for CBT Stage-II will be notified later. The official website for information and updates is rrbcdg.gov.in.
Important Dates
The notification for RRB JE 2025 was released on 28 October 2025. Online registration began on 31 October 2025 and ended on 10 December 2025. The online fee payment window remained open from 13 December to 22 December 2025. Candidates were allowed to make corrections in their application from 23 December to 27 December 2025. The application status was released on 12 January 2026.
The Stage-I CBT will be conducted on 19 February, 20 February, and 3 March 2026. The exam city details are released before the examination, and the admit card becomes available four days prior to the exam date.

The RRB JE recruitment is being conducted to fill a total of 2,585 vacancies for Junior Engineer, Depot Material Superintendent, and Chemical & Metallurgical Assistant posts.
Region-wise vacancies have been released in the official notification. Major vacancy distribution includes Kolkata (628), Mumbai (434), Chennai (169), Prayagraj (162), Ahmedabad (151), Bilaspur (127), Chandigarh (108), Ranchi (109), Secunderabad (103), and other regions. Salary Structure
Candidates selected for Junior Engineer, Depot Material Superintendent, and Chemical & Metallurgical Assistant posts are placed under Pay Level-6 of the 7th CPC with a starting basic pay of ā¹35,400 and a pay range up to ā¹1,12,400.
For Chemical Supervisor/Research and Metallurgical Supervisor/Research posts, the salary falls under Pay Level-7 with an initial basic pay of ā¹44,900 and a maximum of ā¹1,42,400.
Along with the basic pay, employees receive Dearness Allowance (50ā58%), House Rent Allowance (8ā24% depending on city category), Transport Allowance, and other benefits such as overtime and night duty allowances. The approximate starting in-hand salary ranges between ā¹42,000 and ā¹55,000, depending on location and deductions.
Eligibility Criteria
Candidates applying for RRB JE must meet the prescribed eligibility conditions related to nationality, age limit, educational qualification, medical fitness, and minimum qualifying marks. Applications of candidates who do not meet these requirements will be rejected.
Nationality
Applicants must be Indian citizens. Candidates from Nepal or Bhutan are also eligible. Tibetan refugees who came to India before 1 January 1962 for permanent settlement and persons of Indian origin who migrated from specified countries are also eligible, provided they possess a certificate of eligibility issued by the Government of India where applicable.
Age Limit and Relaxation
The age limit for RRB JE is 18 to 33 years as on 1 January 2026. Age relaxation is applicable as per government rules:

Medical Standards
Candidates shortlisted for Document Verification must pass the medical fitness test conducted by the Railway Administration. Medical categories such as A-3, B-1, B-2, and C-1 specify physical fitness and vision standards. Candidates who have undergone LASIK or similar surgery are not eligible for posts requiring A-3, B-1, or B-2 standards.

Marking Scheme
Each question carries one mark. There is a negative marking of 1/3 mark for every incorrect answer. Scores are normalized if the exam is conducted in multiple shifts.
Medium of Examination
English is the default language, but candidates can choose from regional languages such as Hindi, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Marathi, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Punjabi, Odia, Urdu, Assamese, Konkani, and Manipuri. In case of any discrepancy, the English version will be considered final.

How to Apply
Candidates had to register on the official website, fill in personal and educational details, upload photograph and signature, select the preferred post and exam centre, and pay the application fee online. It is recommended to keep a printed copy of the application form and payment receipt for future use.

Admit Card and Exam Center
The exam city details are released 10 days before the exam. The admit card is available 4 days prior to the exam. Candidates must carry the printed admit card along with a valid photo ID to the exam centre, otherwise entry will not be permitted.
Result
The result for each stage is released separately on regional RRB websites in PDF format containing the roll numbers of qualified candidates. The result is prepared using normalization to ensure fairness across multiple shifts. Candidates should regularly check the official website for updates regarding cut-off marks, scorecards, and further instructions.

Eligibility Criteria
Candidates applying for the RRB JE examination must meet the prescribed eligibility requirements. Applications of candidates who fail to satisfy conditions related to age, nationality, educational qualification, medical fitness, or minimum marks will be rejected. Eligibility is determined based on five major factors: nationality, age limit with relaxation, educational qualification, medical standards, and minimum qualifying percentage.
Nationality
Applicants must be a citizen of India. Candidates who are subjects of Nepal or Bhutan are also eligible. Tibetan refugees who migrated to India before 1 January 1962 for permanent settlement and persons of Indian origin who have migrated from specified countries with the intention of settling in India are also eligible. However, such candidates must produce a certificate of eligibility issued by the Government of India before final appointment.
Age Limit
The minimum age for RRB JE is 18 years and the maximum age is 33 years as on 01 January 2026.

If a candidate qualifies for multiple relaxations, the highest applicable relaxation will be considered. No relaxation is allowed for reserved candidates applying under unreserved vacancies. The date of birth must match the matriculation certificate.

Candidates must possess the required educational qualification from a recognized institute before the closing date of online registration. Candidates awaiting final results are not eligible.

Engineering disciplines accepted include Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, Civil, Computer Science, Production, Automobile, Mechatronics, Instrumentation and related allied branches. Candidates having multiple qualifications can choose any one applicable exam group.
Medical Standards
Candidates shortlisted for Document Verification must clear the medical fitness test conducted by Railway authorities. Different posts require different medical categories such as A-3, B-1, B-2, and C-1, which include physical fitness and specific vision standards. Candidates who have undergone LASIK or similar corrective eye surgery are not eligible for posts requiring A-3, B-1, or B-2 standards.

Both Stage I and Stage II will be conducted as Computer Based Tests consisting of objective-type multiple-choice questions.
Medium of Examination
English is the default language. Candidates may choose other languages such as Hindi, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Marathi, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Punjabi, Odia, Urdu, Assamese, Manipuri, and Konkani. In case of any discrepancy, the English version will be treated as final.
Marking Scheme
Each question carries one mark. There is a negative marking of 1/3 mark for every incorrect answer. The normalized score of CBT Stage I will be used for shortlisting candidates for Stage II.
Normalization of Marks
If the examination is conducted in multiple shifts, normalization will be applied to ensure fairness and adjust for variations in difficulty levels across different sessions.

Exam Pattern (CBT ā II)
The RRB JE CBT Stage-II is conducted in Computer Based Test mode. The examination consists of a total of 150 objective-type questions carrying 150 marks, with 1 mark for each correct answer. The total duration of the exam is 120 minutes, while candidates eligible for the scribe facility are given 160 minutes.

Mode of Examination
The CBT-II will be conducted online and will include objective-type multiple-choice questions only. The exam pattern is common for all notified posts, while the Technical section will be based on the candidateās respective engineering discipline.
Medium of Examination
English is the default language of the question paper. Candidates can choose other languages such as Hindi, Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Konkani, Malayalam, Manipuri, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu. In case of any discrepancy between the English version and the selected language, the English version will be considered final.
Marking Scheme
Each question carries one mark. One mark is awarded for every correct response. There is a negative marking of 1/3 mark for each incorrect answer. No marks are deducted for unanswered questions.
Document Verification
Candidates will be shortlisted for Document Verification based on their performance in CBT Stage-II. In case two or more candidates secure the same marks, preference will be given to the older candidate. Final appointment is subject to successful verification of educational and category certificates, character and antecedents, and qualifying the required medical fitness test conducted by the Railway Administration.
Normalization of Marks
If the CBT-II examination is conducted in multiple sessions, normalization will be applied to ensure fairness. This process adjusts scores to account for differences in the difficulty level of question papers across various shifts. The final shortlisting for subsequent stages will be based on these normalized marks.
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
Candidates willing to apply for RAILWAY JE exam are required to fulfil certain conditions to be eligible for the RAILWAY JE exam. The candidate who does not satisfy the Eligibility criteria like Age, Minimum educational qualification, Nationality, etc., shall be rejected by the authorities. Nationality
A candidate must be either:
A citizen of India, or
A subject of Nepal, or
A subject of Bhutan, or
A Tibetan refugee who came over to India, before the 1st January, 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India, or
A person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African Countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.
Provided that a candidate belonging to categories (ii), (iii), (iv) and (v)above shall be a person in whose favor a certificate of eligibility has been issued by the Government of India.Ā A candidate in whose case a certificate of eligibility is necessary may be admitted to the examination but the offer of appointment may be given only after the necessary eligibility certificate has been issued to him by the Government of India.
Age Limit
The age limit of the candidates who are applying for RAILWAY JE must be betweenĀ 18 TO 33Ā yearsĀ of age. Although there will be age relaxations for the reserved categories.

Medical Standerd
Candidates called for DV will have to pass a requisite medical fitness test(s) conducted by the Railway Administration to ensure that the candidates are medically fit to carry out the duties connected with the post(s) opted by them. IMPORTANT DATES
The Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) has officially announced the RRB JE Exam Date 2026, stating that the CBT for CEN 05/2025 (JE/DMS/CMA) will be held on 19th and 20th February, and 3rd March 2026. Additional details will be provided along with the RRB JE Admit Card 2026 and the City Intimation Slip. The city details will be released 10 days before the exam, while the admit card will be made available 4 days prior to the scheduled exam date.
