Selection Process
The recruitment process begins with Paper I, which is objective in nature. Candidates are shortlisted based on normalized scores to appear for Paper II. Final selection and allocation of department or post are based on the combined performance in Paper I and Paper II along with the candidate’s preference.

Candidates must meet the minimum qualifying marks: 30% for UR, 25% for OBC/EWS, and 20% for other categories. The allotment of posts is strictly based on merit and preference. Once a post is allotted, no change is permitted if the candidate fails to meet specific physical, medical, or educational requirements.

All admissions during the recruitment process are provisional and subject to verification of eligibility. Selected candidates must undergo document verification and medical examination. After appointment, candidates remain on probation for a period of two years and may be required to undergo training as prescribed by the department. The selected candidates are liable for posting anywhere in India, as the job carries All India Service Liability (AISL).

Exam Syllabus
The SSC Junior Engineer (JE) examination syllabus is designed to assess candidates’ reasoning ability, general awareness, and technical knowledge in their respective engineering discipline. The selection process begins with Paper I, which is an objective-type computer-based test. Candidates who qualify in Paper I are shortlisted for Paper II. Final selection is based on performance in Paper II followed by document verification and medical examination.

The Electrical Engineering section covers fundamental and applied concepts. Major topics include basic electrical concepts, circuit laws, magnetic circuits, AC fundamentals, measurement and measuring instruments, electrical machines, single-phase and fractional kilowatt motors, synchronous machines, power generation, transmission and distribution, estimation and costing, utilization of electrical energy, and basic electronics. The questions are generally technical and based on core subject knowledge.

General Engineering – Mechanical (Part C)
The Mechanical Engineering section evaluates knowledge of core mechanical subjects. Important areas include theory of machines and machine design, engineering mechanics, strength of materials, thermodynamics (first and second laws), properties of pure substances, IC engines and their performance, combustion, cooling and lubrication, Rankine cycle, boilers and accessories, air compressors, refrigeration and air conditioning, fluid mechanics, fluid machinery, steam turbines, hydraulic turbines, centrifugal pumps, and basic production and industrial engineering concepts. The difficulty level is generally at diploma to graduate standard.

Paper II Syllabus (Technical – 300 Marks)
Paper II is also an objective computer-based test that focuses entirely on the candidate’s chosen engineering discipline. The duration of the exam is 120 minutes.

  • Civil Engineering: Advanced topics in building materials, estimation and costing, surveying, soil mechanics, hydraulics, environmental engineering, transportation, theory of structures, RCC, and steel design.
