LATEST UPDATE 2026

As per the latest update, the Staff Selection Commission has released the Exam City Intimation Slip for SSC MTS 2026. This slip helps candidates know their exam city and plan their travel in advance. The SSC MTS 2026 Computer-Based Test (CBT) started from 4th February 2026.

The admit card for candidates scheduled on 4th February 2026 has been released. Candidates can download their hall ticket from the official website (ssc.gov.in) using their registration number and password. The admit card, available from 2nd February 2026, contains important details such as exam date, shift timing, exam centre address, and exam day instructions.

SELECTION PROCESS

  1. Candidates must qualify Session I.

  2. Final merit is based on Session II marks (normalized).

  3. For Havaldar, candidates are shortlisted for PET/PST in 1:5 ratio.

  4. Final selection depends on merit and post preference.

  5. Failure in PET/PST removes candidature for Havaldar but not for MTS.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

Candidates must fulfill the required eligibility conditions related to nationality, age, and educational qualification to apply for SSC MTS and Havaldar.

Nationality

A candidate must be:

  1. A citizen of India, or

  2. A subject of Nepal, or

  3. A subject of Bhutan, or

  4. A Tibetan refugee who came to India before 1 January 1962 with the intention of permanent settlement, or

  5. A person of Indian origin who migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, or East African countries (Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia, Vietnam) with the intention of permanent settlement.

Note: Candidates belonging to categories other than Indian citizens must possess a certificate of eligibility issued by the Government of India.

  3. Candidates who will acquire the qualification before the specified date and can provide documentary proof are also eligible.

SELECTION PROCESS

  1. The selection process for MTS includes Session I and Session II of the Computer Based Examination.

  2. Session II will be evaluated only if the candidate qualifies in Session I.

  3. Minimum qualifying marks:
    UR – 30%
    OBC/EWS – 25%
    Other categories – 20%

  4. For Havaldar, candidates must also qualify PET/PST after the Computer Based Examination.

  5. For MTS, the final merit list is prepared based on normalized marks of Session II only.

  6. For Havaldar, candidates are shortlisted for PET/PST in a ratio of 1:5 based on Session II performance.

  7. Candidates who fail PET/PST will not be considered for Havaldar but may still be considered for MTS if eligible.

  8. Final selection is based on merit and post preferences submitted in the application.

  9. Post allocation is done based on merit-cum-preference. Once allotted, no changes are allowed.


Resolution of Tie Cases

If two or more candidates secure equal marks, the tie will be resolved in the following order:

  1. Higher marks in General Awareness (Session II)

  2. Higher total marks in Session I

  3. Candidate older in age will be given preference

  4. Alphabetical order of the candidate’s name

Height, chest, and weight will be measured as per SSC prescribed standards.

Physical Test (For Havaldar Post Only)

Physical Efficiency Test (PET) – Walking/Running and Cycling
Physical Standard Test (PST) – Measurement of Height, Chest, and Weight as per SSC standards


Key Points

Session 1 is qualifying only, so the focus should be on clearing the cutoff comfortably.
Session 2 determines the final merit and selection.
Proper time management is important as each session is of 45 minutes.
Total Marks for CBT: 270 (Session 1 + Session 2).

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

Candidates applying for the SSC MTS and Havaldar Examination must fulfill the prescribed eligibility conditions. If a candidate does not meet the required criteria related to age, educational qualification, or other requirements, their candidature will be rejected. The eligibility conditions are determined by the Staff Selection Commission.

The eligibility for SSC MTS and Havaldar is based on the following:

  1. Nationality

  2. Age Limit and Relaxation

  3. Educational Qualification

  4. Reservation as per Government rules


Nationality

A candidate must be either:

  1. A Citizen of India, or

  2. A subject of Nepal, or

  3. A subject of Bhutan, or

  4. A Tibetan refugee who came to India before 1st January 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India, or

Candidates who have not yet received their final certificate but can provide documentary proof from the Board at the time of verification are also eligible.
