LATEST UPDATE 2026
According to the latest update, the Staff Selection Commission has issued the Exam City Intimation Slip for SSC MTS 2026. This slip informs candidates about their allotted exam city and centre location so they can plan their travel in advance. The SSC MTS 2026 Computer-Based Test (CBT) started from 4 February 2026. The exam slots have already been assigned, and candidates are advised to keep checking the official website regularly for further updates.
The SSC MTS 2026 admit card has been released for candidates whose examination is scheduled on 4 February 2026. The hall ticket became available online from 2 February 2026 on the official website (ssc.gov.in). It contains important information such as exam date, shift timing, exam centre address, and exam day instructions. Candidates must download and carry a printed copy to the examination centre.
OVERVIEW
SSC MTS (Staff Selection Commission – Multi Tasking Staff) is a national-level examination conducted for the recruitment of candidates to General Central Service Group-C non-gazetted, non-ministerial posts in various Ministries, Departments, and Offices of the Government of India.

SSC has announced a total of 7,948 vacancies for MTS and Havaldar posts.
Multi Tasking Staff (MTS) – 6,810 posts
• Age 18–25 years – 6,078 posts
• Age 18–27 years – 732 posts
Havaldar (CBIC & CBN) – 1,138 posts
These vacancies are based on the revised notification for the 2025–26 cycle and may be updated in the final notification.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
Candidates must meet the following conditions:
Nationality
The candidate must be:
• A citizen of India, or
• A subject of Nepal or Bhutan, or
• A Tibetan refugee who came to India before 1 January 1962, or
• A person of Indian origin migrated from specified countries for permanent settlement.
Candidates other than Indian citizens must possess a certificate of eligibility issued by the Government of India.

For MTS – 18 to 25 years
(Born between 02.08.2000 and 01.08.2007)
For Havaldar – 18 to 27 years
(Born between 02.08.1998 and 01.08.2007)

Educational Qualification
Candidates must have passed Matriculation (Class 10) or equivalent from a recognized board.

For Havaldar posts, candidates must also qualify:

The exam is available in English, Hindi, and selected regional languages.
EXAM SYLLABUS
Numerical Ability – Number system, percentage, ratio, profit & loss, time & work, mensuration, averages, data interpretation.
Reasoning – Analogy, series, coding-decoding, direction, blood relations, puzzles, syllogism, Venn diagrams, non-verbal reasoning.
General Awareness – Current affairs, history, geography, polity, economy, science, sports, awards, books, static GK.
English – Comprehension, error detection, fill in the blanks, synonyms, antonyms, idioms, vocabulary, sentence improvement, voice, narration.
For Havaldar – PET and PST are mandatory.
SELECTION PROCESS
For MTS
Selection is based on Session I and Session II of the Computer Based Exam.
Final merit is prepared only on the basis of Session II marks (normalized).
Minimum qualifying marks:
UR – 30%
OBC/EWS – 25%
Others – 20%
For Havaldar
Computer Based Exam + PET/PST.
Candidates failing PET/PST will not be considered for Havaldar but may be considered for MTS if eligible.
Final allocation is based on merit, preferences, and normalized scores.

EXAM CENTERS

SSC MTS (Staff Selection Commission – Multi Tasking Staff) is a national-level examination conducted by the Staff Selection Commission to recruit candidates for Group-C, non-gazetted and non-ministerial posts in various Ministries, Departments, and Offices of the Government of India. ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
To apply for the SSC MTS examination, candidates must satisfy the required conditions related to nationality, age, and educational qualification.
Nationality
The candidate must be:
• A citizen of India, or
• A subject of Nepal, or
• A subject of Bhutan, or
• A Tibetan refugee who came to India before 1 January 1962 with the intention of permanent settlement, or
• A person of Indian origin who migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, or East African countries (Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia, Vietnam) with the intention of permanently settling in India.
Candidates belonging to categories other than Indian citizens must possess a certificate of eligibility issued by the Government of India.

SELECTION PROCESS
For MTS, the selection process includes Session I and Session II of the Computer Based Examination.
Session II will be evaluated only if the candidate qualifies in Session I.
Minimum qualifying marks:
UR – 30%
OBC/EWS – 25%
Other Categories – 20%For Havaldar, the process includes Computer Based Examination followed by PET/PST.
For MTS, final merit is prepared based only on normalized marks of Session II.
For Havaldar, candidates are shortlisted in a 1:5 ratio for PET/PST based on Session II performance.
Candidates who fail PET/PST will not be considered for Havaldar but may still be considered for MTS if eligible.
Final selection for MTS is based on Session II performance.
Final selection for Havaldar depends on Session II marks and qualifying PET/PST.
Post and State/UT allocation is done based on merit, preferences submitted in the application, and normalized scores. Once allotted, no changes will be made.
Resolution of Tie Cases
If two or more candidates secure equal marks, the tie will be resolved in the following order:
Higher marks in General Awareness (Session II)
Higher total marks in Session I
Candidate older in age will be given preference

Key Points
Session 1 is only qualifying, so the focus should be on clearing the cutoff comfortably.
Session 2 is important as it determines the final selection and merit rank.
Each session is conducted for 45 minutes, so proper time management is essential.
Total marks for CBT (Session 1 + Session 2) – 270 marks.
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
Candidates applying for the SSC MTS and Havaldar Examination must meet the required eligibility conditions. If a candidate does not satisfy the criteria related to age, educational qualification, or other requirements, the candidature will be rejected by the authorities. The eligibility conditions are decided by the Staff Selection Commission.
