Salary Structure

The salary for SSC CHSL posts is governed by the 7th Pay Commission:

  • Lower Division Clerk (LDC) / Junior Secretariat Assistant (JSA): Pay Level-2 (₹ 19,900 – ₹ 63,200).

  • Data Entry Operator (DEO): Pay Level-4 (₹ 25,500 – ₹ 81,100) and Level-5 (₹ 29,200 – ₹ 92,300).

  • Data Entry Operator, Grade ‘A’: Pay Level-4 (₹ 25,500 – ₹ 81,100).

Eligibility Criteria

1. Nationality

A candidate must be:

  • A citizen of India, OR

  • A subject of Nepal or Bhutan, OR

  • A Tibetan refugee who came to India before January 1, 1962, with the intention of permanently settling, OR

  • A person of Indian origin who has migrated from specific countries (Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries, Vietnam) with the intention of permanently settling in India.

2. Age Limit (As on 01-01-2026)

  • Age Range: 18 to 27 years.

  • Birth Dates: Candidates must have been born not earlier than 02-01-1999 and not later than 01-01-2008.

Selection Process

  1. Tier-I Exam: Candidates are shortlisted based on normalized scores.

  2. Tier-II Exam: Conducted for qualified candidates.

    • Section-I & II: Merit deciding.

    • Section-III: Qualifying nature (Computer Knowledge & Skill/Typing Test).

  3. Final Merit: Based on aggregate performance in Tier-II (Section-I & II) only, subject to qualifying Section-III.

  4. Post Allocation: Based on merit-cum-preference.

How to Apply

  1. Register: Visit ssc.gov.in, click “New User Register Now”, and fill in basic details (Aadhaar, Name, DOB, etc.) to generate a Registration ID.

  2. Upload Documents: Upload a recent color photograph (20kb–50kb) and signature (10kb–20kb) in JPEG format.

  3. Fill Application: Log in, complete academic details, and select exam center preferences.

  4. Pay Fee: Pay the examination fee online or via E-challan.

  5. Print: Submit the form and print the confirmation page for reference.

Selection Process

The selection relies on a multi-stage process where merit is determined by the normalized scores.

  1. Shortlisting: Candidates are shortlisted for Tier-II based on their performance in Tier-I. Separate cut-offs may apply for different posts (DEO vs LDC/JSA).

  2. Tier-II Exam: This is mandatory for all qualified candidates. It includes:

    • Section-I & II: Marks from these sections determine the merit ranking.

    • Section-III (Skill Test): Qualifying in nature. Includes Computer Knowledge Test and Typing/Skill Test.

  3. Final Merit: Prepared based on the aggregate marks scored in Section-I & Section-II of Tier-II only, subject to qualifying Section-III.

  4. Post Allocation: Based on “Merit-cum-Preference”. Candidates must submit their preferences online before the final result. Options once submitted are final.

Key Highlights of Tier-I

  • Mode of Exam: The exam is conducted online as a Computer-Based Test (CBT).

  • Question Type: All questions are Objective Type, Multiple Choice.

  • Medium: Questions for General Intelligence, General Awareness, and Quantitative Aptitude are available in both English and Hindi. The English Language section is available in English only.

Marking Scheme

  • Correct Answer: +2 Marks are awarded for every correct response.

  • Negative Marking: 0.50 Marks are deducted for every incorrect response.

Normalization of Scores

Since the SSC CHSL exams are conducted in multiple shifts, the difficulty level may vary slightly between question papers. To ensure fairness, the Commission uses a normalization formula to adjust the scores of candidates across different shifts. These normalized scores are used to determine the final merit and cut-off marks.
